Looks like they stored this underwater. I don't think it's usable unless all the wood is replaced, you'd need new binding because it's shot, it doesn't have any hardware, the truss rods are rusty and the inlays...could they be salvageable?

You like the couch?s4001 wrote:I kinda like it.
I can't really tell by the photo, but doesn't the headstock look like it bows forward? Anywho, that is the poorest excuse for a guitar that I have ever seen. It is embarrassing.

It's probably because I'm naive, but if I were a jillionaire I'd buy this and send it to Captain Fix It Up to turn it into an S-style bass or something... and when he called me to say, "This was a big waste of your money, it sucks," I'd reply, "I'm a jillionaire."

That bass should be given a proper burial.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!
Re: What is WRONG with people?! - Part Dix
You could use the body wings and headstock wings and fretboard and perhaps the truss rods. The neck could be used as a template for a new one, this has been done before. But would you call it a restoration or reserection?
Not to mention that finding the hardware is next to impossible...
Without any of the important hardware it is not worth the opening bid...

Interesting thought... could you use the fretboard to restore that horrible fretless 4005 that's been for sale in Germany for the last four years?weemac wrote:You could use the body wings and headstock wings and fretboard and perhaps the truss rods. Eden.
Still not worth anywhere near the ask....

It might be worth using as an "art" piece. You might be able to paint it up and hang it on the wall. I have a shiny poster of Middle Earth as my main living room picture.

Not sure I want to know how you know that, Greg....captsandwich wrote:That couch looks like a naked fat guy from behind.
Just sayin'.
Re: What is WRONG with people?! - Part Dix
Interesting no one mentioned it is a '73 or earlier, what with CB. Someone should have informed the perp you shouldn't use a fine bass for a canoe paddle. Josh, that is a standard neck rout size for this era. I agree with Ted, too high for an opening bid. Especially in this economy. If they really want it to move, starting it a $0.01 would have been smart.
Re: What is WRONG with people?! - Part Dix
Someone is being greedy, IMHO way too much for opening bid. what it would cost to restore this isn't worth it. Too much damage too bad I'll bet it was a beautiful bass along time ago before Pete Townsend got a hold of it!

Re: What is WRONG with people?! - Part Dix
I asked the seller if he would sell me just the headstock.........no dice!
Re: What is WRONG with people?! - Part Dix
One way of getting a '68 and modding it to hell and back and not feel bad about it.
Re: What is WRONG with people?! - Part Dix
Well, now that it has one bid, I guess someone feels like it is worth at least $550.00.
