from a tip on a youtube clip, i just received a copy of "talk to the world",a tv broadcast of an entire yes concert in santiago,chile,in 1994. while not up to the standard of newer yes dvds, the visuals are well-lit,and the sound is pretty clear-you can hear the individual parts really well. i saw them twice on this tour,and it's a great show. as a bonus (?) the guys close the show with a short impromptu version of "purple haze"-pretty strange,huh? it's a treat to hear the live versions of endless dream,with chris and billy sherwood doubling bass parts,and hearts was expanded upon nicely. i actually loved tr's take on and you and i,and they even opened up the proceedings with a truncated version of perpetual change. the dvd is available online at saturn records in san francisco ($23.00 shipped),if anyone is interested. oh,and chris has a nice array of basses rotating through the set....love the tobias extended-range,the ranney 8 string,mouradian,and of course the rm.

Great post, Woody. I've seen clips of that concert and would like to have the whole show, although I differ with you on AYAI - Seeing Trevor play the 12 string parts on electric piano, as he did in Florida, just made me want Steve's return all the more. From the Orlando show, I remember the purple haze bit as well. I also remember the look that Jon got from TR when he forgot the words to "Changes" (the "one word from you one word from me" section). All in all, though, it was a good show, with Billy Sherwood there as a side man. The concert was simulcast on FM with a surround mix so that you could actually listen on an FM radio inside the arena. Endless Dream is still a favorite of mine, with Jon delivering some of his best vocal work in years.

I saw the 'TALK" tour in 1994 at MSG quad sound was cool Love this album as well. I will pick up the DVD now that i know.

Me too. Always have loved Talk. I used to pass the time while my daughter rode dressage with Talk and headphones. Tough not to sing along and freak everyone out.

just finished watching the dvd all the through a 2nd time.....there are just so many times watching this when i was whoo-hooing the tv! as i said,the video/audio quality is good enough that you don't miss anything,in fact,better than the actual seats i had when i saw 2 of the shows from this period. jon seems pretty spacey even for him in this show,but he sounds great. even tony kaye sounds really good here,finger-fudges were minimal even on that tricky piano part in HOTTS. as much as i adore steve howe,i really like rabin as his own composer/guitarist/singer,and i had no idea he was THAT good of a pianist! (prior to seeing him play one live i mean) alan seems to be having a helluva time,and then of course,chris. whew. in full pirate regalia,but man....still my favorite live rock bassist.ever. i must be a case of arrested development,as i have read a lot of posts over the years saying "i thought he was cool when i was a teenager,but....." chris has always been amazing live,even this past month,i was once again blown away....back to this dvd,this is a great companion to your 9012live dvd,even some of the songs common to both are given different treatments. this is a lot of hype,but then,well we know it's deserved.

john,oh yeah,"can't look away" is a great album,hoping that trevor follows up with another singer/songwriter/producer type album again someday....i have not been able to get into his soundtrack work at all,i guess i am more song-oriented-plus i just enjoy his vocals as well as his copious musical abilities....

Just ordered a copy of the Chile TALK concert. Now if Fragile, TFTO and Big Generator concerts could be located, we'd have the entire band's history in video form.

I like Trevor's work, for the most part, although it took a little while for me to come around. A hurricane in 1984 forced my destroyer out to sea, so I missed the 9012Live tour and didn't see Yes live with TR until 1987. I like all three Yes works with Trevor, with BG being my favorite, (not commenting on UNION ) but I just do not care for his singing voice. He seems to keep reaching for notes that he cannot hit, which causes me to cringe a little during certain songs. As good a song writer and guitarist as he is, however, I don't find myself locked away for a weekend trying to learn his parts, as I've done with Steve's parts, and learning SH tracks will be a lifelong pursuit of mine, to be sure. Still, Trevor remains a brilliant guitarist / songwriter and has much to his credit, including his current work as a film composer. I once considered that career and have a lot of respect for anyone that can score films successfully, as that part of the industry can chew you up and spit you out as fast as any other part. It is not for the timid!

I have a Trevor Rabin demo album from 1978 that I picked up at a swap meet in Chicago back in the late 80's, where TR does everything but drums. It may be the same demo that Brian Lane gave to Chris Squire in the late 70's. I have yet to transfer it to CD. I played it once and, if I recall correctly, was very heavy over-produced rock, very compressed, but it got his points across because his guitar playing was phenomenal. I also have "Can't look away" but I don't think I listened to that one more than twice.

Please take time today, if you read this, to keep little Xilan Squire and her parents in your thoughts and prayers, as she is fighting hard to overcome the hardships of her premature birth. The last I heard, she was doing well with some minor setbacks. Chris and Scotty are with her almost constantly. Scotty has posted some updates over on YesFans, if you can wade through all the other stuff on that site to find them. Her user name on that site is "Screedy" and her avatar is a picture of Chris giving little Xilan a kiss. Donna and I send them our prayers and best wishes to have Xilan healthy and home as soon as possible. It must be a very rigorous routine, especially for Scotty. All the best to them!
