Saturday Night Out

The single "Saturday Night Out" has been a favourite of mine since its release. There was a time in which I played it as often as the A Side ("Needles and Pins".) I have always wondered about the composer (Richards). Can anyone shed any light on this songwriter? The song has that great rhythm guitar of John McNally and is full of energy with a nice melody.

I have always held the view, that Saturday Night Out was probably going to be the follow up to Sugar and Spice. Whilst conjecture on my part, you have to consider the facts. TJ was lead singer on both the first two single and albums, which were very successful, the fact they had got a spot in a film with the same title, must have been conceived to be a huge bonus, assuming the single was released. I reckon Needles was going to be the B Side, but for some reason, Tony Hatch, the bands producer felt that they had captured a different sound and took a chance, had the single, not been as successful as the first two, Tony Jackson, I feel would have been back to lead vocalist. The rest is history as they say. But also consider this, Sonny Bono who co-wrote the song, would have probably kept it for him and Cher to record, had they had a recording contract at the time.
TODAY'S THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF YOUR LIFE
Tony Hatch has been discribed by some as an individual who may not be in tune with what the fans wanted at the time. It would see, however, that he got it right on this occasion Roy.
