The Early Polls, with 37 States reporting in-

This is what I've found out there-
Some Jet-Glos- and that jetglo balck is really something...
I could get a nice one for a nice price from a nice Dealer....

Possibly a MapleGlo- That might be a way cool pair with my MG Laredo, yeah, I'm thinking.

The Mid Blues are around too, but NOT from Sammy Ash for me! I have reasons...

Here's the thing- I FOUND (1)FireGlo- and I think I'm gonna do it...
But see-
Between US, now, OK? C'mon I mean it...

This Dealer, he's kinda a ****head, OTOH he would be a non-issue, once the Bass is delivered. It's just about xfering $$, the Ric is waht it is- new and hard-to-find- VERY.
I'm liking FireGlo, I really am.
I do NOT have a "sunburst" color type bass.

Any political commentary is welcome.
I almost hoped someone would say not to get one, but hey, really---

This ain't easy....

OH sh****!
That supersized pic is really making me want to tell the Dealer with a 'tude (and a FireGlo) to jump off a lake...
(2) questions?

Is that the standard p/g on that Jet-Glo? Gawd, that looks cool!

ANd-
I know this has probably been addressed a billion times, but have pity on a Ric newbie..
How difficult is it to remove the pup cover-
I'm thinking that would need to go on my 4003--

IF I decide to get one....

Oh yeah, Larry, "IF" MY *** IF- You know you're gonna get one, you've been hooked, these guys are MAKING you get one- They're
THE
DEVILS!!

They can see you have no resistance and will not SAVE your hard-earned cash- They Know- Look what they're doing...

BEGONE DEVILS BEGONE!

Wow, I think I might be having stress issues in my life to act like this...

BEGONE DEVILS!

Larry, it's really not difficult to remove the pickup cover. If you'd like, I'd be happy to do it for you.

That's an aftermarket pickguard on Jeffrey's 4003 made by Pickguardian
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Waiting for final details from Dealer with FireGLo; then I can make a decision-
It's between FIreGlo (assuming he comes across) and JetGLo- no prob there.

Then I have to knock that frickin' Angel off my shoulder that's telling me to chill; be responsible, and enjoy the pics of the beautiful 4003's 4001's et al that show up here. I gotta say- The RESPECT, knowledge and admiration youse guys show for these basses makes me realize just how special they are, delivery-wise, performance wise. and otherwise.

I mean look at ME- New Bass-Laredo- (!) week ago- Has it lost some luster?

NO Perish the thought- It's SO good and SO THERE that I'm thinking having a current 4003 would be so right-on...

Too bad there's enuff dough in my wallet to pull it off...

I also Noticed a thumb-rest on that large JetGlo picture- Thought you could get that by me, huh? Just 'cause I'm new here, huh?
So that's the way it's gonna be.....

FireGlo or JetGLo

Obama or McCain (LOL)

What's it gonna be...?

Okay, as one with 4 Rick MapleGlo basses and one Walnut Cheyenne, I vote MG. Obvious choice. Matches the Laredo. New inlays, walnut wings, new (return to old) maple wood source that has great figuring. Only needs CB to make it a slam-dunk, but then that is true for all of the colors. Hey, with MG you have a COEY. [Color Of Every Year]

OTOH, I am seriously considering a FireGlo too. Ever since Eric took an interest in how the FGs were being finished in the paint booths, they have REALLY come out looking how I like (think Wints 4001 basses).

When I saw the MID bass at POTR during this year's MARF III, I thought that was a really really nice color. Appears JetGlo in lower light, but when the light, sun, or stage lights hit, it looks like the night sky an hour or so after dark.

JetGlo - as someone stated it is the most bought color on a 4003. Eh, dime a dozen! Besides, MID is the new JetGlo, as Paul said.

Larry, my observation on this thread and your present "dilema" - you have redefined the term "Cabin Fever."

Seriously thought (thinking) that too- that would be a sweet sweet pair...hmmmm

Only needs CB to make it a slam-dunk

Lost me...what's "CB"?

considering a FireGlo too

FIreGlo is nice; plus I don't have a Sunburst type bass...

Larry, my observation on this thread and your present "dilema" - you have redefined the term "Cabin Fever."
True, and there are a couple reasons for this...
I work from my home, and this last week has been "internal" preparations for NAMM, so I'm freed from the usual hangin' & bangin' that I need to do-rather than obsess & post on Ric Forums..
But most of all- Took delivery of New Laredo, thus was exposed to Rickenbacker mojo/spell.

This is not just another bass- Nope. Sleek, and phatter in a neck-thru, Maple Bodied, RIc OEM Strings and Ric vibe way than my other excellent basses- even when "they" were brand new and beloved- still are.

So this recent spate of free time combined with exposure to Ricenbacker, Money in my pocket, and the burning desire to now own a 4003...Must...Have....One....Can...not...Wait.... Need... to....pull....Vintage ....tone...control....eq bass thru one of my rigs and take it DOWN!

Don't worry tho- After NAMM I have a lot of "roadwork" to do, even a couple Musical Projects that have been in abeyance until after the 1st of Year and NAMM obligation-
And whether I ultimately pull the trigger and I have my 4003 or not- I think I may just take my own advice that I've given to many players who talk about many things-

Fireglo is the way to go, and here's why.

1: All Fireglo's are lovely, but, that said each is a little different, almost impossible to find two that are identical.

2: As for other Translucent colours eg AutumGlo, do you really want a Ric that looks like it came from a Smokers paradise, it's Brown, just like a Jazz !! Now, Joey has a wonderful translucent blue 4004 which is lovely, again though, it's blue over Maple, BFD !!!

3: Your basic Blackglo is exactly that, Black, seen one, seen them all.

4: The same applies to Woodglo, only difference is that some grains look better than others, and the really nice ones are candidates for a Fireglo refinish.

I know that the owners of both will cry foul, but come on guys, admit it, Black is Black and clear varnish over Maple is just that, Maple.

Fireglo is absolutely "the" Rickenbacker signature colour and looks stunning on any model.

This is of course just my unbiased opinion!!

Mmmm. Maplegloooooooo!

I could be convinced to sell this one. It's an '07 and I'm second owner. Great wood grain on this one, and in mint condition. Has Pickguardian treble-pickup surround installed, but comes with original surround and cover. Of course, being used, it is not under warranty, but you would have near-instant gratification! Let me know if you are interested.

Wow Jeff, small world. When Tony gets back from Namm and back to work on the 19th, he is going to make me a new guard in black pearloid. Now that I have seen your white pearloid, I am even more encouraged

Well, as far as my "collection" (2 Rics 1 here and now; 1- Pending, results of balloting/sourcing still OUT)
It's either the MG. which would be a very cool twin to my MG Laredo
or FG-
For reasons stated, plus picture the two together-
There ya go-
Of course I HAVE the MG , I found a FG 4003-
I'm not gonna mention, but this Dealer was, well...never mind.
He hasn't forward me info yet, if he had it woulda been SOLD-my impulse.

That's the fascinating thing to me- and remember, i'm new to this mania- The guy knew he could/would sell that instrument in no time, and even at a nice price, he didn't really care whether I bought it--Might not be worth the trouble for him to box it up!
Okay, I get it...
Like I say, I found a few available JG's, and I really like Black too, with binding...
SO at this stage FG would be forthcoming, just depends on wheterh the dealer gets of his azz and does HIS part!
We'll see- I haven't found another FG around.

ANd a couple peeps have offered their used 4003's for sale, and I really am appreciative, but..
If I'm gonna do this, I'm on the hunt for a new '08.
Decided that much!

I gotta say, to me the "voting" is very interesting, and as a new-found afficianado of these basses, I give you guys here BIG props for what yuou know and what you do...
At this point, I THINK (2) Rics my MG 04 and a yet to be determined 03 would be the shiznitz-
I also need some dough for a bass I need to have custom-built that would Ba-low all your minds- trust me on that one-
Details being worked on, alas it's not a RIC, of course, couldn't be, but oh my oh my, what it would do...
Hint: "GR-20" OK I've said enuff. 8)

CB = Checkered Binding. We may never see it again on a standard factory bass, or they may go into production with it yesterday (highly doubt that!). When the backlog is done, who knows????

As for my Cabin Fever comment, I wasn't bustin' yur chops. You are obviously having a great time obsessing over the Laredo, picking a 4003, and learning about RIcks. BTDT. And writing about it in a very entertaining way, to all our enjoyment. :)
