New RIC bass copy

Re: New RIC bass copy
I just love when those copy-cat "designers" make a complete knock-off instrument, but try to "soften-up" the illegality of it by doing a slightly different truss-rod cover.
In their minds, this will avoid all legal problems.
Re: New RIC bass copy
Tony, NOBODY finds more stuff than you!
I wonder if they actually plan to try and market these in the USA? Did you happen to send a link to Ric's legal guys?

You might be surprised to know just how many forumite dollars I've spent for other people!
It's a hobby of mine, I have to live vicariously through other peoples wallets!
Re: New RIC bass copy
Interesting bridge/tailpiece design, though.
Re: New RIC bass copy
At first glance, it looked like a HS.
BTW Tony. You probably know that your hobby is a great service to those who are looking for stuff. No Joke.
But, what search engine do you use? A big block with a blower?
(that, was a joke)

I agree, the execution is poor but the concept is very good, loose those fake mute screws and it would be even better.

Nah...! It's simply the "Vitage" typeincubus2432 wrote:Maybe that's the new RIC bridge!
So long and thanks for all the fish!
Re: New RIC bass copy
If I was 18 again and wanted a RIC like I did and was poor like I was back then, I would buy this in a heartbeat.
Re: New RIC bass copy
I missed it, but I heard mention that there was a manufacturer with a Ric copy (or very close to copy) at the Namm show. Not a bright idea.

Re: New RIC bass copy
If the connection to Bacchus is correct (and I haven't been able to verify it despite some digging), then the manufacturer is the "downmarket" Korean offshoot of a Japanese brand (Bacchus, a division of Deviser/Headway) that has been very successful domestically. The quality of their Korean output has been pretty variable, to say the least, as it is very much made to a (restricted) budget, and is sold into Japan as entry-level, in a similar way to Chinese Squiers in the US.
I'd put the obvious discrepencies (TRC, bridge, pups and treble pup surround) down to cost-cutting. These aren't made to be exported and as such the makers don't have much regard for trademark infringement.
The seller has made a monster mistake by trying to sell internationally. They are going to receive a short and sharp lesson about the illegality of marketing these knock-offs to the US.

i saw this one too, during an ebay rickenbacker search-it's actually a set-neck,which is kinda intriguing. i also was noticing the bridge, wondering if it was "drop-in able". but the bass does look pretty cheesey, overall.

You know what they say. What is made in Korea, stays in Korea.
