Thank It's for the Laredo- I have a nice one coming for the FIREGLO 4003--- Bass tomorrow!! !! !!
Strap- a couple weeks... 4003 tomorrow!! !!! !!!!

Hey Kira, it was based on a Kachina I have, called the Eagle Dancer-

And the concept is/was that the Eagle can FLY over obstacles and SWOOP over issues and such-
So I sent a J-Peg of the Kachina to Mme. Chantal Cordey, my Girl-Buddy in Australia, and this is what she carved for me-
I should have it in 4-5 days. Seems like a good idea, to have an anti-bad stuff icon on my bass strap, no?

The "Larry from LA" thing- she does that with all her clients-
"Andrew from Botswana"
"Yves from Paris"
"Dzucevik from Slovonia" etc. etc.

A real United Nations- Check her straps out- Google "Chantal Cordey" you'll see---

I Know you will like her vibe, Kira- I can tell.

Technically, it should be "...a Kachina doll I have ...", as Kachinas are the spirits themselves, represented by the dolls and costumed participants in ceremonies.

BTW, nice strap! :D

I hadn't seen that is is nicely carved, too. Sweet! I like to get a special strap for each guitar too, but most of mine are not special nowadays because I have too much more important gear to buy first. These accessories add up

On a Western theme, I've got this old airbrushed black leather one. These handpainted straps were all the rage for a while around here, oh, say, this one is from the late seventies.

She does really nice work indeed. This one would turn heads:

The only problem is that you can only put them on really nice instruments, else they would upstage them!

OK then; of course...Kachina DOLL- got it, right you are..

Nice one, Kira-

The strap below is my Western Motif, purchased at NAMM as a matter of fact-
I've always liked his (Eldorado) straps, just not the skinny little Vintage ones- N/G for Bass-

And fwiw, here is also the Kachin DOLL that I had Chantal carve from....

I TOLD her I didn't want those Border Accents, tho....Grrrr!
Oh well...SHE is the artiste--

BTW- I'm considering having a '69 P- Bass painted by another very killer Lady-
Possibly the Kachina too, or a motif with a Sterling Silver Rose and a Red Rose; intertwined-
There's a story there-- I'll add a link to that very cool Artist in a sec.....

Do you mean Chantal? If so..
You are right, of course, but-
Well yes and no-

You can buy a strap for $5-$10-$25 or $50. It may be leather (or not) and it will hold your bass up just fine, sometimes even very comfortably.
Or you can pay $100 or more and get a top end production type strap like a Moody (actually they're more) or a higher-end Levy's, or Italia, or many more of this calibre.

Here's the difference.

Someone like Chantal, and there are several others as well, is an artist and craftsman.
I know her and her story, and she has some serious background in leatherwork, and does all her own carving, sewing, every step of the manufacture, using only the best leathers and things.

The time that it takes is considerable, not counting the years of experience required to produce something to that level.
Also, not to mention her intrinsic artistic abilities from both a simple graphics standpoint, like mine, (deriving the artwork and carving it from a photo I furnished) or working to completely develop and design a strap and it's artwork.

Chantal as can be seen has a number of customers who stumbled on her work; she sometimes doesn't accept custom orders, and has even referred customers elsewhere should they want something that she personally doesn't want to tackle, like simply carving initials or so..

And, finally, she personally could make about 100X what she does making/selling her straps by going back to motion picture design, but doesn't choose to work in that field for a lot of reasons.

Yep, it costs a buck or two to get a Cordey strap, but I know and love her, and she's absolutely worth it- Anyone using one of her straps would agree- Because with all else I've blabbed- they are SO well-made and comfortable too!
