I would like a "greenglo" 325 in that neon scheme shown in the pictures section. If it had a "purpleglo" pickguard and "orangeglo" hardware it would be one heck of a guitar. Awesome visual looks! Am I dreaming?
"Here he is, come to pay homage to the Rickenbacker display!" (Said to me by owner Bruce at the "Great House of Guitars" in Rochester, NY)
...a 330 shortscale bass...midnight blue, with gold plastic...or jetglo with gold hardware...or mapleglo/black trim....
A 330 bass would definitely be one of my dream Ricks.

Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Close to Peter's idea is this one I've had floating around since I was a kid:
Start with a 400x neck, but use a guitar headstock. Rout down the body portion to accept a 325 body over top, so it would only have neck seams on the back (awww, heck… who's gonna see them in Jetglo?). Rosewood dot inlay fretboard and gold plastic trim (Nameplate, Pickguard, etc), standard bass tailpiece, 5 ea. burns knobs, the fifth being a rotary pickup selector.
Pickups? 3 Hi-Gains. I understand, now, that the newer hi-gains accept Toaster covers, so you wouldn't totally lose the Lennon look. Finish it off with closed Grover bass tuners and ROS and market it as the model 4325 bass.
Won't work? C'mon! Why not?!

The ideal mix leaves the bass player louder than the rest of the band put together!
I would be happy with anything from the "C Series".
