"For your own non-commercial use, you could make a blank one yourself. Use it in public and you'd be straddling a fine line."
"Dave Meros did the T-Shell thing... "
Well I guess they better start busting Dave Meros for what he did to his bass, and then play it in public. C'mon I think this is a bit ridiculous. Once you own it- it's YOURS - so modify away to your discression. Is Ford, GM, or Chrysler going to nail people for trademark infringement when they modify thier cars with fabricated parts or after market parts and then drive them in public. NO, they market the idea for those who do. C'mon....

Mortivan, my apologies if I haven't been clear, but I'm talking about counterfeit logo TRCs. All I can see from that pic is a tort guard, doesn't look like a counterfeit TRC to me.
A person can modify his own stuff however he wants, but if he counterfeits a trademark and uses it in commerce, he's fair game.
If you don't agree, try selling a counterfeit of a trademarked item on eBay.
Inside your house, you can paint golden arches on your dining room walls and dress up like Ronald McDonald. Try posing as Ronald in public and see if McDonald's is amused.
Maybe a blue Grimace outfit, just maybe, but not Ronald.
