AFG vs FG - A Quick Survey
Since we may be seeing the last of the AFG's, and with the amazing new FG's now in the marketplace, it may be interesting to get a quick opinion of preference among the forumites. A year ago, I would have chosen AFG hands down, but having acquired a new 370 FG last Fall, it seems that Eric keeps upping the ante on the beauty of the FG color; they're all magnificent, and it's a great time to be a "new" Rick buyer, with the additional added features.
Any thoughts?

Re: AFG vs FG - A Quick Survey
I have a 370FG I bought last fall new ,and a 2006 360/12 AFG. They actually are remarkably similar aside from the binding, the AFG a little more yellow in the center. Tough choice , but my new 370FG , with the "new" fireglo, looks so much like the vintage style, plus it really stands out with the whiter binding and the full width inlays just really do it. I have a SLIGHT preference to the new FG, I guess.

Not to be negative, but a serious question. Could you post a pic of the new FG you got that you like? You got me curious, now...
I will claim ignorance, because I really haven't seen a "regular", NEW, FG that I liked much. I mean the ones that are a shade of pink. It is possible I haven't actually seen a NEW one, as you describe.
Only after they've aged for many years.
But AFG...now, that's what I like to see in a FG.

I like them both for different reasons. I would love to have a newer AFG 4003 for example. The aged look of the binding on a bass appeals to me. On the other hand I like the look of the new FG on six string guitars with or without binding.

Of those two, (just my opinion), I'd still prefer the AFG.
In fairness, that regular FG seems more appealing than previous versions I've seen...but I'd still opt for another color.

Cool, Scott. I think the darker outer area looks better, and maybe there's less pink in the center. I could see where that would age nicely.
The beautiful flame in that one doesn't hurt, either! Nice bass!
Not to detract from the topic, but for an example, this is what I see as a FG.

Re: AFG vs FG - A Quick Survey
I like the older AFG best as it looks the most like vintage fireglo. The new AFGs are just too dark, and look more like Autumnglo to my eyes.
Old AFG left, new AFG right (apologies to the owner of the photo):
That being said, the new FGs, aside from the first few of 2008 which were too pink, are really nice-looking. They've really gotten the pink out of the center in the newest formula.

Re: AFG vs FG - A Quick Survey
For my nickel's worth, I prefer the new FG which does not contain the 'pink' shading. As to the AFG, I think they also look nice, and accurately protray the looks of an aged FG instrument. However, I think the yellowing of the binding/inlays is a bit much. I would prefer a little less of the yellowing effect. But....what do I know, having never owned a truly vintage FG instrument. Maybe this effect is accurate depending on the supposed 'age' of the vintage FG vintage this is supposed to represent.
