Better Days

Post by lyle_from_minneapolis »

Here's a work in progress....still needs some tightening up and I haven't put in the solo yet, but what the hell.

Better Days

There's a burning in the air
People crying and moaning everywhere
For every shattered dream they used to chase
Hear them scream and hear them shout
As for me I know without a doubt
That I'll be holding out for better days

Yes, I'm gonna wait for better days
The devil wants to set this world ablaze
Times are tough, but I know enough
About fortune's fickle ways
To stick around for better days

I can’t remember having fun
And the cops watch out for anyone
Who even looks like me, man they never close the case
I’m working part-time cleaning a bar
And I make my home living in a car
Where I dream most every night of better days

And I'm gonna wait for better days
The devil wants to set this world ablaze
Times are tough, but I know enough
About fortune's fickle ways
To stick around for better days

The good times hopped behind the wheel and drove on round the bend
But someday they'll come rolling back again

So I'm gonna wait for better days
The devil wants to set this world ablaze
Lord it's tough, but I know enough
About fortune's fickle ways
To stick around for better days
Yeah, I'll stick around for better days

Neat tune, Mark. A little Dylanesque in this listeners opinion, and I like that. Great guitar work! Envious.

Cool. Do you want to play an instrumental solo and we can have a Kira Moon version? I have someone else who's going to do something with slide, but I'm okay with multiple versions. If you do, then feel free to download it, lay down your guitar part, send me that singled out part, and I'll sync it up. If you like it you can post it anywhere you want, too. I'm not one of those "eek! people are going to steal my stuff" types. I'm sort of hoping someone WILL steal something of mine and manage to get it cut, so I can claim something out of all this.

Cheers!

Thanks Stan! The guitar part would be damned near impossible to play...I used a few different tracks and played it piecemeal...one measure might have a capo, while the next measure is capo'd on a different fret, then open...multitracking is fun, and I have no shame.

Frankensolo, anyone?

You should see mine on the multitracker, if you can follow them  I figure I'm about 20% as good as I sound on record.

Nuthin wrong with using the medium. Sgt. Pepper's, for example.

Lemme see what I can come up with. :D

Being a large fan of Nick Drake I certainly understand the piecemeal work, or multiple tuning variances.

Wow Mark,

What a great song. I love the tone of the bass and of the acoustic parts. Your singing style is perfect for this song. Great harmonies too. In short this is another masterpiece in the making.

I have to agree. What a great song. Love the arrangement, too.

Nice! Gorgeous harmonies. I don't know if you're still searching for that country hit, but this is another awesome candidate.
