Re: Fender's biggest price increase?
I've become a bigger and bigger fan of used instruments...there are some great deals out there on the used market for most all brands, especially considering the recent manufacturer's price increases. The last new guitar I bought was Baja Tele last summer. Prior to that, I think my last new purchase was my 325c64 the year before.
OTOH, last year I also found a '52AVRI Tele and a '62AVRI Jag, both used but less than a year old and both mint, for less than $2K for the pair. And speaking of G&Ls, it seems they are usually abundant at great savings on the used market. My advice would be to avoid new prices for a G&L--as good and as nicely crafted as they are, they just don't seem to hold value in the used market. Don't ask how I know this...
Rics still tend to hold their value on the used market, often bringing prices within a few hundred $$ of new prices.

Re: Fender's biggest price increase?
Agreed. There are some excellent buys on used G&Ls. They really do not hold their value, despite being superior to comparable Fenders at similar price points. Just goes to demonstrate how the name on the headstock does make a difference to legions of players. If you haven't played a G&L, especially ones produced in Fullerton, California, you owe it to yourself to try 'em. You will be pleasantly surprised.
