Ah Larry,

You haven't been around here long enough to have witnessed the trials and tribulations of waiting for a bass that has been in the pipeline for just over 3 years. Especially when it is a discontinued, limited edition, or COY model that cannot be replaced.

I myself, as well as other fourmites who have waited years for a guitar have seen them get lost, damaged in shipment, sold to others, the list goes on and on. While I have total confidence in my dealer, The Rickenbacker Page...I apparently am the last one standing waiting for delivery, again! :(

I'm just lucky enough to draw last or second to last straw with delivery on my 4003DCM, my 4003FL AFG, and now my 4004Cii BBR.
I kind of feel like that kid in school being the last one picked to play stickball!

I know it will all workout, and my fellow forumites are just having some fun at my expense, it's all good. 8)

BUT I JUST WANT MY DAMN BASS!

Tony-
I hear you,
I FEEL you...
I understand..
My post was a play on my thread "The Box" where I raised Caine about waiting for the UPS truck to get my first 4003 (FireGlo!) after...one week!

Nothing like a lad getting his first Ric job, that's for sure. My Laredo a week earlier set the stage, and then...

And waiting for a Cheyenne--
I got ya! Saw 'em hung up their like Xmas Jewels at NAMM, shoulda grabbed one for 'ya.

Question??
What is the delay?
You're waiting for a BB from your dealer, I take it.
Does HE have the bass, and just not sent it you, yet, or do they still await, even tho it's been listed as built/sent.

At any rate- Even tho my duration was in comparison ridiculously short-
It will be worth it, you know that!

It's cool Larry,

No harm, no foul.

What worries me is that NORMALLY when a bass I order arrives at my dealers, I get a call.

I'm guessing the weather has delayed delivery? Not sure if he even has it yet.

I was hoping to call today, but got tied up out of the house, so I guess I'll try tomorrow.

SO, it's either still on the way from CA to NC, or in NC...or possibly on the way from NC to FL...but that's doubtful without getting a call from the dealer. I just get a bit paranoid not knowing exactly where it is at this point in time.

I'm sure it will be a killer, I really haven't heard anything bad about the 4004 models. I'm looking forward to this bad boy in the worst way....COME TO PAPA 4004Cii BBR, COME TO PAPA!

Coming from Ca as in the Ric factory to NC, your dealer I take it?

Well, the weather here sure could have delayed, after all, it was close to 50 degress last night....

BRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr!

I'm freezing my truss rod covers off here!

Ha
haha
too funny.

I saw a BB Cii at NAMM-

What I have to tell you will not make your wait easier...
But I must!

It was...
Mahvelous!

Blue, as the azure beauty of the Florida sky, after a tsunami or Hurricane....

Grain- such as the wheatfields in I dunno where the hell are there wheatfields, Kansas

Sandwiched within, the walnut, the Maple, resonating as if to say:
"Play me Tony...Play ME... for I am your new Bass- A rickenbacker Cheyenne, the PRINCe (or Princess) of the 4004 series-
Stately, elegant, REGAL, and toneful...toneful as the Pipes of Pan....

Well, ...maybe tomorrow, huh?

Now we know why Tony's bass has been delayed - Hey Tony, this one must be yours!

You can hope! As to your always being last to get the special orders - maybe it always takes you longer to decide or convince Janey you really need it. :)

IF..
IF that is/was YOUR BB at NAMM-
You will be very happy.
Happier than you even think you're gonna be.

Those Cheyennes were front and center in the Ric Room, and they were stunning.
I've never ever seen finish like that, and the sandwiched woods- I had no idea they were that beautiful.
Makes my Laredo look plain-jane by comparison, but I'm dealing!

Hope you get yours very soon

No Bluebursts at NAMM, only a Trans Blue Cheyenne.

Well I stand corrected.
Trans Blue, BlueBurst.

Me, just a simple Bassist, working hard at NAMM, didn't bring my
"Field Guide to Rickenbacker Cheyenne Cii Finishes"
Making a mistake like that, Horrible. I should absolutely know better!
Shame! On ME!

Next Time.

Hey Tony, don't worry, pretty sure you'll like your new Bass, even if it wasn't the one I described to you...
SO sorry!

LoL,

It's all good guys....I spoke to Mike Parks yesterday....he's got it in hand.
It is STILL sitting in the box, so he doesn't even know what it looks like yet.

Larry, I've seen the pictures of the Trans Blue, it IS a killer, I can only hope mine looks half as cool.
I'm REALLY hopeful it has a good bit of grain in it as well.

He said he'll set it up on Monday and hopefully ship on Tuesday if goes well.

John, you MAY be correct in your theory.

I did hear Janey mumble in the background yesterday when I was on the phone with Mike.....
"great, like you NEED another one".

GOOD WOMAN, good woman.

Was the dealer Classic Axe?
I remember pounding the pavement looking for my FG, and thye had a MG 4003, that I spoke with a very cool Lady about...
Almost pulled the trigger, as she described the wavy grain, the beauty and finish, the voluptuous sheen...
When she was through, I hadda take a cold shower...Then she charged me $1.98 a minute for the call!
Damn! Worth it tho...
I SWEAR I saw a pic on that site of a BB 4004 Cii, 'course what do I know??

At any rate, maybe it was AFG, no wait it was Blue-something, and it was UN-Gawdly, no matter what one's faith may be!

You're getting it WHEN??

WAIT- Youve NEVER played a 4004???
NEVER?

hUN! What is this Forum, anyway...THye let just ANYBODY post here??!
NEVER PLAYED A 4004, i CANNOT BELIEVE THAT!

Thanks Woody,

I can't wait. I'm really hoping being last doesn't mean getting a less stunning girl...kind of like the runt of the litter?

Nope Larry, never played a 4004Cii.

I've owned about 40 different Rickenbacker basses, I currently have 10 in my humble collection and I've played a few more that belong to other forum members...but alas, never a 4004Cii....never even seen one in the flesh either.....I ordered it solely on the recommendation of fellow forum members.

SO, I don't know what to expect exactly. I'm a bit of a thin neck snob, so I have high hopes from the descriptions, that I will love this bass as well.

I bought it from MIKE PARKS, he sells over the internet at http://www.the-music-connection.com/ric.htm. I've only purchased new guitars from ether Mike or Chris Clayton at Pick of the RIcks in NJ.

IF all goes well, I SHOULD have it late next week. :P

Ahh, I've seen the Music Connection and know that they are one of the top Ric providers.

I'm going to talk about the necks, and I qualify to, not only because of my charm, but because I own one of each.

Seems I've heard that there is/was a discrepancy between neck profiles between 4003's- Dunno, but nonwithstanding...
One of my "other" basses is a Warwick- and I hear posters in a zoo-like "other forum refer to the "baseball-bat" necks.
O-kay.
Opinions are like...etc.
Good.
I am blesssed, endowed with big hands, go figure, but that asidei It is the radius and profile that creates comfort in playing position and left hand "attack" for want of a better term-

The 4004 and 4003 are very different, but I lay into my 4004 and do movement up/down the neck with a different
feel than with my NEW!~ 4003- or my P-Bass, or G&L (#8 "Jazz" neck) or my Warwick.

The string spacing differs too, and vive la difference. I get a wider, more open tone and sound from the 04 than the 03- Not better- different.
Especially on the E- the 04 gives me some serious "elbow-room" to create, dig in and play some lower end figures-
I could see why a die-hard 03 player would not care for the profile of the Laredo/Chey- They ARE different, the basses have a character their own.
I don't only have (2) Ric's now, I have 2 completely different instruments. I like that.

The Laredo is more a traditional approach to a bss guitar, aside from being a neck-through, it has the cahacteristics of the Fender Bass so to speak- that and the exquisite woods and finish and build, the Chey's being the penultimate of that.

The 4003-
Ain't NOTHING else like a 4003- I can tell you that (Well, you already know).
If you want a 4003 feel, tone, and sound-
You have one source, and it isn't Fender, Or MM, or Fodera, or even a Custom Builder- no way could they get it right, let alone parts.
I am sure the Rickenbacker Co. has a "Factory Death Squad" to see to that!

Tony, smart money says you're going to LOVE the 4004--If not get a frame or jewek box, and sit there and admire it!
When i'm playing another one of mine, that's what I do with my plain ole' Laredo!
