Steve, that's cool. Sounds like the ladeez get between you and your basses sometimes...NOT!
Ok, gotta GOOD table lined up for YOU!

Right column party at my place.
Count me in!

john B; johnallg
Well OK, I mean what can I say?
You did RESPOND- even without a story OR more importantly Credit Card,
so theoretically you'd get to join the left column-
But No No I understand, who am I to judge?
Just thought I'd think about a little par-tay, (I begin week-ends again this Spring-
3-sets, R&B- Brianna Powell & the PROJECT- You will hear a Rickenbacker slam! this stuff, I mean that!
But, no I understand really- I'm sure that there will be more glamour, glitz, and all-around mayhem at the "sloopjohn B"
event than I could offer at a drab, dull location like Las Vegas- In an upscale Spa/Casino/Resort, on a Friday or Saturday Night, with a slammin' rhythm section and a smokin' hot chick...err, excuse me, I mean LADY singer, who gets the job done
a la Chaka chaka chak chaka- khan chaka kahn chaka khan.....
No doubt.
Got it!

Oh, and Brianna says sorry she won't get to meet you.....

I used to be in an electric blues power trio called Apia. I used my 4003 for that.

I have a 4003FL now and it is my main squeeze. I take it out on a number of jazz gigs. It is by far the best instrument I have gotten to play, especially as fretless basses go. Much livelier tone than most of them. I am editing some recordings of it right now.

For those who remember, I put a Hipshot on the 4003FL to palm mute. Well, no more of that. I tried the stock bridge and I like the super-low action it gives me a lot better, as well as the sound in a way (much more fretless character). I guess I forgot, but it sounds a lot cleaner and clearer than the Hipshot, so fast runs don't get lost in the mix. I can still manage to palm mute even with the teeth in the way, because the pickup cover is gone, so there's a spot for my thumb. So I it was basically a win-win scenario when I made the change. Also, the bridge is higher quality than the bridge on my 4003.

I'm going to assume that the Hipshot is a direct fit for a Rickenbacker, because I can't imagine you fans drilling holes into your basses...
The again, there are some here who modify...It's a free world, so I opt to leave my basses alone-
I played around and restored my '69 P-Bass into a player extraordinaire, you must all bow before it, sorry. (I do)
That was enuff diddling with basses for me.
Perish the thought of touching MY Laredo or god-forbid the mirror-like translucense of the FG 4003.
Hey, that's me.

A fretless Ric intrigues me- I used to have a Turner Renaissance which was/is the most amazing recretion of double-bass you can imagine, absolutely flawless workmanship, on par with Rob Allens easily.
With the way my 4003 plays, I can understand a fretless Ric being a great player for Jazz- and if you like Coltrane, which undoobetedlly you do, best concert I ever heard was Sonny Rollins, Ron Carter, and McCoy Tyner LIVE- TOgether- with Al Foster on drums. Can you imagine?? I've seen Sonny since, but that night, he hit some overtones on the Sax that boggle. I mean boggle- And of interest to me is a young Cuban I believe, David Sanchez (pronounced "Da-veed") pretty slick.

OK- now I have a comment-
If some prefer the right-hand column featuring the soulful reditions of sloopjohnB and "Jazz Funeral" (?) got it, have a good-
More food, more drink, more room at the slot machines for the left-hand columns.

The new Hipshot bridges drop directly into the cavity and require no drilling or other physical modifications, as such they are easily removed and the stock bridge dropped back in.

I don't think even Vegas can match my supply of Bombay Sapphire. Plus, I doubt the resort has 4005's, Capri's, and vintage Hofners for your playing pleasure. 8)

Oh, trust me-- Red Rock can more than match your supply of Bombay Sapphire- I've seen CONTAINER loads of liquor unloaded- That is the highest margin after gambling, and the determinant of a "Lounge Act's" longevity-
Of course there is a built-in audience, but the bottom-line- Which rules in Corporate-Las Vegas- is:
How are the receipts at the room you are in?
If they show an upsurge and meet a parameter- Renewed- If not, the Agency is called, and you will be released after term of Contract.

Now then- Most people think and in some cases appropriately so, of a "lounge act" as the Cheesy Bill-Murray tyupe caricature
that existed.
Well Yeah-
But- When I had the opportunity to present a package- (interesting story there; another time) I deciede to put together a pocket rhythm section doing re-worked and re-arranged covers of dance-your-***-off R&B- Ballads included.
My repertoire consists of Al Green, Chaka Khan, Macy Grey, Aretha, Ann Peebles, Gladys Knight- etc.
Even some nice originals or two.
Concept- Done gambling; Par-tay down to the Lounge, meet & greet, Mingle, listen to/dance your booty off to old-school R&B- Guitar, Drums, Keys, Sax, Percussion, the truly hot and talented Ms. Brianna Powell, with truly hot and talented
Delia and Cherie doing back-up Vocals- (as mentioned before-This is polyrhythmically arranged so that the b/ups become accented instrumental portions of the greater arrangement.)
Harlan, my Keyboardist, is a superb arranger, I'm not chopped liver and I dictate the Feel at large.

This Spring, I will be using my Rickenbackers, and as I hae laid them in at preliminary rehearsals- I'm stoked.
May not be Red Rock this time around; I've got some other things brewing Contract-Wise.

And nope, No 4005's or Hofners (which I don't care for, but then again who knows?? Never had a Ric til early this month!)

But-
Trust Me- Friday/Saturday nights blowin' R&B in Las Vegas.
I'm good with that.
