Re: RIP John Martin
That is sad news, a fantatstic talent.
Re: RIP John Martin
Sad news indeed. What a great singer/songwriter. I wish I had followed his career. Unfortunately I did not. That's my loss.

Re: RIP John Martin
I also think his story serves as a sad commentary on Folk and Rock...for all their 'sincerity', and the lip-service paid to 'truth' by those genres, let's face it: there was no way a kid named Ian MacGeachy was gonna make it in those worlds...anymore than a kid named Archibald Leach coulda made it in Hollywood...
I didn't get where I am today by being on time...
Re: RIP John Martin
Before seeing this thread I knew nothing of John Martyn, but decided to familiarize myself with his work through Youtube. He was obviously a tremendous talent and his passing is a very sad loss indeed. Was he very well known in North America?

Re: RIP John Martin
Lovely - thanks, Scottie.
I saw John and Danny in Bristol, back in 1973 or 1974. Still remains one of the best live shows I have ever seen. Watching all these old videos from that era reminds me just how good John was, and what a perfect pairing of musicians these two were.
Great stuff. Time to go and dig out some old vinyl....
