Say you had to choose another 12 String Electric and it could not be a Rickenbacker, what on earth would you choose to get the job done??

Easy, no contest. Fender Electric XII - mid 60's
Quite a versatile solid body neck. Very different sound from a Ric, wider neck- traditional string pattern, but good looks and still affordable.

Tough question...I'd never really consider anything but a Rick 12
But you can't go wrong with a classic...

Kapa Continental 12 String!
Made in the US in the 60's (went out of business before the 70's) with Hofner Pickups. Sounds awesome and was the prelude to a Ric 12.
It's biggest score so far at only $200!
If you want to hear it.. It's all over the song "Days" which you can download (or stream) http://blog.sailorjerry.com/post/philly ... e_tritone/

Interesting question. Both Fenders are good. I would vote for a mid-60's Gibson 335-12. They're loud. My 2nd choice would be a Mosrite because the frets are so low.

My first thought was that I'd pass up the challenge altogether. My second thought was I might have a custom 12 string built using Warmouth parts.

Would an Ovation celebrity double-neck 6/12 acoustic guitar with electric pickups count? As a huge Bon Jovi/Richie Sambora fan, that is what I would pick.

I tried one of those once at my local GC, very awkward to play.scoobster28 wrote:Would an Ovation celebrity double-neck 6/12 acoustic guitar with electric pickups count? As a huge Bon Jovi/Richie Sambora fan, that is what I would pick.

If the 12 string version plays and sounds as good as my six string version, it would be this

hands down.
I have the left handed version with 2 mini humbuckers....bought it as a back up six string in case I broke a string on my 6 string Ric.

A Gibson ES335/12 or a Gretsch Country Gentleman 12-string (6122/12) would do it for me.
However, I'm glad I don't have to make that choice!

Re: OK mates! Your 2nd Choice of a 12 stringer??
I have a 1967 Gibson 335 12 string that plays and sounds great. Of course it doesn't sound like a Ric, but it has a nice full rich tone and I have the action set really low so it's super easy to play.
I have had a 360/12c63 12 string on order for over two years. I can't wait to get it. Then I'll have to decide if I really need to have 2 12 strings but right now the Gibson is handleing the job just fine.

I'd have to choose between one of the following 3: Fender XII from mid-60's, Phantom RI of Vox 12 string, or Gretsch Country Gent 12.
Re: OK mates! Your 2nd Choice of a 12 stringer??
Vox Mark XII or Starstream XII. Nice, wide necks.
