The tuners have been replaced by BIG shaft schallers as well.

Well, for that price I figure you can,t go wrong!! Jared , it took me a minute to make sure it was a 72 and the guy was being on the level. Had to look again after the BIN to see if there was not a 1 in front of that 895!! If it,s as straight as he says it is I,ll be well happy. Here,s the player I,ve been looking for, and I can handle a few mods here and there. Glad I sat out on the 73 F/G now...

Replace the Schallers with Hipshot Ultralites with the 1/2" posts. It will feel as though you just shaved a few pounds off the headstock!

Only one hole to drill per tuner for the mounting screw in back and they will drop right into the headstock hole (11/16"). I have them on my '76 4005WB that replaced the same Schallers (M4S) and it balances perfectly.

Thanks guys and to Jeffrey too for that tip. I,ll hold that mod in mind, unless I go down the original grover road. Being from the U.K. I always convert $$$ into U.K. sterling and still can,t believe this has only cost around 490 pounds. I,m a happy camper tonight...

Grovers are nice looking but just fall apart and have a sloppy feel to them. You would also have to plug up the 11/16" holes and redrill for the Grovers, not to mention refinishing the bass afterwards; these just drop in. And the Hipshots are much less expensive, too.

Jeff - the grovers don't fall apart if you fix them first! And if the covers are tight, they don't feel sloppy at all.

I'm with Marc. Why do I always miss these? Andrew, are you still in the UK? I thought the seller said he only shipped to the US or Canada. If I'd only known....my one consolation is my 72 with the walnut wings (and the rest)only cost me £490; that was in 1993 though! In fact there's a story attached to that; when I first saw it in a (fairly) local shop, it was £680, and I was broke. I had my 76 azure at the time. I played the 72 and was blown away; it was by far the best bass I'd played up til then. The assistant said he'd do a (very fair)p/x on my 76 (I didn't have it with me but he was familiar with it), but I was reluctant to part with it, so went away thinking "well that was the best bass I've ever played, but it just isn't meant to be mine". Fast forward a year, and I'd been saving for a new amp. I went back to the same shop, and the 72 was still there! Not only that, but they'd reduced it to £480 because they couldn't sell it! I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough...that was one of the happiest days of my life!
