Got me a 2004 Jetglo 4003 and love it! Wanted one ever since my brother got his 4001 back in the mid 70's.
I couldnt play, but it looked so cool. Anyway, I do play now...And now I own one!

Ok, whats this Ric O Sound thing about? The way I understand it is this, please correct me if I got it wrong:
With a 1/4 Stereo "Y" with 2 mono outputs plugged into the Ric O Sound output on the bass, I can then go to 2 separate amps with each producing sound from each pickup. If this is true, am I to understand that I can then control the volume and tone of the Bass & Treble sides to each amp making 1 the Bass amp, and the other treble? Then by setting the toggle in center position, I should get sound through both amps? Down position is the Bass side amp & up treble amp?

You got it all sussed out right, Koy. That's basically just how it works. I'm sure some other folks can elaborate on the finer points better than I. I've used the ROS to run my 4001 bass pickup through a bass amp and the treble through a guitar amp with effects added to the treble signal only. You can go crazy and still preserve your clean bottom. It sounds like two people playing in unison, and the possibility to separate the amps means true stereo experience. Lovely.

Hi Koy, and welcome. Kira's explaination is right on. I also use a guitar amp for the neck feed, but don't use any effects. Still, since I put the treble side through a Marshall and overdrive it and use a little reverb, it definately sounds like two different basses. And, the posiblilties are endless. Have fun man!

Hello and Welcome, Koy. Sounds like you've basically got it all right and you've also found some good advice on this thread. This:

was probably an absent-minded typo, and is backwards. DOWN = treble (bridge) pickup; UP = bass (neck) pickup.

Now go plug in to two amps and wake up your neighbors. It's the right thing to do!

Yes Kira, never thought about using a Guitar amp for the treble side. Just tried it with an old vintage Peavey Artist tube amp along with my Ampeg B2R & 4X10. Tossed a little chorus delay in on the peavey and it was great fun. What a magnificent tool! Opens up the already versitile 4003! I have some great basses, but I got to say, the Ric deserves its props! Thanks for the great tip!

welcome,koy. there is a band called clatter whose bassist uses 3 amps including a guitar amp, to get a variety of sounds,it's a very cool use of rickosound. none of my basses have the rickosound,but i use an effects pedal with stereo outputs to run 2 amps,a markbass combo and an ampeg sb12. i like the aluminum hipshot myself. nice lookin' bass!

+1 on the aluminum hipshot. Truth is, I really liked the original bridge assembly and didn't want to pay to change it out. However, in my case even with the bridge bottomed out, the action was higher than I liked. The replacement allowed for finer tuned adjustments. But, there is no way I would change out the original unless you are having a problem.

I couldnt really tell you if there was a significant change or not. Mine came to me with problems, so I changed it. I do like the hipshot. I still dont understand what hipshot was thinking by not tapping a hole in the underside of the bridge with a tiny screw in it to use for a ground. For $150.00 you would think that wouldnt be a big deal. Intonated right up though, and seems to have a better sustain as well...I got the Brass one BTW...

Welcome to the Forum.

I use the Ric-O-Sound on my 4003 a fair bit, I play her into both an Ampeg B-15 and an Ampeg B-25. Each of these has two channels, and each channel has a "Normal" and a "Bright" setting.

I use one channel with the tome set up to suit how I like my Neck pickup, and the other set up for the Bridge, this way when I switch between one and the other I'm enjoying a tone setting a dialed in for that pickup. When I select both the tone's wonderful.
