Um, I was referring to this:jps wrote: Eden.
[/quote]Really, really well!
If you use the HB in single coil it sounds like a cross between a 70's hi-gain and a 60's toaster (I'm not kidding) Mixed with the treble pickup I can get a real nice vintage sound going (clank and chime). If I back the neck tone off just a bit the full coil HB comes in and with every thing up it sounds more 4003ish (Growl and wallop)
If you solo the neck pickup and turn the tone down it will do a sort of refined EB-3 sound (with out all of those nasty hot spots in the sound) Very smooth..
A mod I thought I would never like (I'm a diehard toaster fan) but its great!
Eden.
Oh! I get it now!

+1 to that. I've seen a lot of "Stealth" Rick basses in my time, but that one beats the lot. Looks like it's been carved out of ebony.dog wrote:Wow Brian....nicest Laredo I have seen.

Re: It's A Mod Mod Mod Mod World!
I liked Brian's Laredo so much that I got a jetglo Laredo and did a five string conversion with black hardware. I left the fret board natural bubinga though since it's a beautiful looking dark wood. I also did the VVT mod with 500k vols/1000k tone pot, it's much brighter sounding than the average 4004.espidog wrote:+1 to that. This is the perfect thread to post my Dark Star 4004L.
Rings for days. One of the all time favorite basses I have ever had. I dunno. These pickups just work so well with the bass and I love the black and chrome look.

Greg,
That's a heck of a routing job to get those puppies to fit huh?
Re: It's A Mod Mod Mod Mod World!
My recently modded 4004L. I was tired of playing a non-RIC 5-string so I finally did this with some of my newly aquire time off. Nut spacing is 3/8"(9mm) bridge spacing is 5/8"(15.5mm). Cover on bridge HB1 was removed so as not to impede the extra wide string response. The bass had previously been modded with a vintage style pickguard, current 4003 spec wiring and knobs as well as a 70's bridge pickup ring, vintage RIC/Schaller tuners and vintage truss rod cover.

I may have a RiHS for you coming...
Re: It's A Mod Mod Mod Mod World!
I had my 4004Cii converted to fretless. It lacked a certain definition in the "traveling harmonics" that you can generate on a fretless, so I moved the rear pickup forward a bit and added another HB1 bridge pickup. The pickguard and control layout is copied from a 4002. The rear pickup has it's own tone and volume, while the middle and rear are wired to the selector, volume and tone controls like a standard 4004. Tuners are gold plated RIC/Schaller vintage.

Nothing to be sorry for at all! It just threw me for a split second. "Who owns my old bass now?" I thought. Until I saw the FWI. I like it.dog wrote:Yeah, thanks to you Bruce!I'm sorry that I never got back to you. It was your idea that inspired me.
