Oh really.......This one was signed by Chris Squire :D
Ah, I love those potato heads.... :D

I'm surprised Chris didn't want the bass when he set eyes on it - it's fabulous!

One of these days, I have to get my pictures from my desktop over to my laptop...

I have one as well, in my 2006 Monty 4003...Mr. Sergio (as per my request) wound this one HOT HOT HOT!

I don't recall the exact ohms, but it was like 14.5+, it is a MYSTERY PICKUP in that you can't get an ohm reading out of it...some special trick Sergio did when he made it, but it is KILLER CLEAN and the heaven's above say "CAN YOU TURN THAT DOWN A BIT PLEASE" when I play it!

PERFECT in detail as it has the magnetic SLUGS like a stock RI, only HOTTER!

PERFECT for my uses. I need the extra kick to compete with the other 15 instruments in the band....

Jeff, when I drilled out the pole holes of a regular bridge higain coil I hit copper (look - one pole is closer to the edge than the other end). I glued in the steel pins for poles and Sergio rewound the coil with #44 wire to 8k ohms. When I got another set of magnetic shoes, I made an aluminum bottom plate and mounted it all up. This is a very nice sounding pup, mates very well to the 8k '73 higain in the neck. I have the .0047uF cap in the HS circuit, which I usually don't like, but in this bass (has a darker tone naturally) it works very well.

Thanks Evan! It really sings!

Oh really.......This one was signed by Chris Squire :D
But I think Dane wins this one... plus he was the one who came up with the design. I just got the bass and hardware to his luthier....

But it is schweet! :D

Yeah, nobody seems to have given him, or Macca, much grief about modifying their Ricks!

Great point, Jeff. In fact, it has made them an inspiration for both RIC models and owner mods.

Josh - is that actually a Ric? The skunk stripe looks rather wide.... Either thats a weird paint job or it's a fake!

Certainly the headstock has been repainted, but I think the skunk stripe looks wider in this shot as the A and D strings are adjacent to it (and they appear to be black tape-wounds, likely). I'm not aware of any fretless fakes, but it could happen. But I think Brubeck has long been known to have this fretless Rick.
