Yeah, that's it, a 4003MG. Sure, there have been many available since I placed the order. But, I got a good deal on this one, from a small dealer that I've known for a long time. In fact, I've not seen one anywhere near the price I paid for this one, even a lot of used ones, even some fairly abused used ones.

Now, had I not already had the '76 4001, well, I may have been in a bit more of a hurry and paid a bit more. During my wait, I managed to pick up that '84 4003MG with that amazing grain. Also, RIC went to the full width inlays on the fretboard, so, waiting was a good thing in that regard.

As for mods, yes, this one is destined for some fairly major mods. It sort of depends on what it looks like as to what all will get done to it. I'm fairly certain it'll get black binding, maybe even black hardware. That's always been a look I've liked, and since RIC doesn't make 'em that way anymore, I'm forced to either buy a used MGBT (at a LOT higher price) or make one myself. Another mod will likely be to turn it into a 5-string. I've always wanted a 5-string 4003. Not a 4003s, not a 4004 type (though I do like those and may just have to get one someday), but a 4003 with the binding, triangle inlays, etc. Yeah, I really like the binding, I've never cared for the 4003s.

Anyway, in my mind, warped though it may be, it seems better to do those sorts of drastic mods to a brand spankin' new one rather than risk messing up a "vintage" one, especially if the new one was cheaper than a used one...

As for a 4003 Fireglo, well, part of that guess is right. Actually, if anyone's been paying attention, I've mention in several threads exactly what I've had on order, even the thread I referenced above...

OOOOPPPSSSSIE!!! Short attention span strikes again!

I can't wait to see what you've got coming!
We had -12 this morning, but's looking like we'll break the freezing mark over the weekend! Wahoo!
I just checked the local website and we've had 204 inches of snow so far. That's 17 freakin' feet!

Well, I think we've only had about 46 inches of snow so far, but most of it's still here. We had a few days a couple of weeks ago where it popped up above freezing a couple of degrees. But, we're getting into a bit of warmer weather, got to 34F today. They're saying 39F and chance of RAIN! tomorrow, that'll make the packed snow and ice fun to drive on...

WAIT JUST ONE DARNED MINUTE THERE!!! TOMORROW'S THE BIG DAY! You know when THE TRUCK, with THE BOX is coming! What's the big idea of making it RAIN and getting the roads all slick, huh?

By the way, I see by the tracking info, my new bass is in Billings, Montana RIGHT NOW!!! A mere 240 miles away!!! :D :D :D

That's funny, I have UPS tracking info for a box that arrives Friday too. It is my second Ric, another trans red Ric, 29 years after the first. Gonna be a restless night. Almost like Xmas. I hope the 4001 and the 4004cii get along okay. Not sure how the 4001 is going to take having a little brother...

Yeah, it is cool to see NEW RICKS showing up. This will be my 4th Rick bass, but it'll be my first NEW one!

The weather's supposed to be slight chance of rain showers after 11am. Hmm, probably not too much to worry about.

Oh, by the way, UPS tracking says my bass is OUT FOR DELIVERY!!!

Since Gary, our old UPS driver has retired, I sure hope the new guy doesn't get lost...

Looking forward to seeing what you've gotten CJ. I know how frustrating it can be when yo have to worry about a Rick being delivered. At least the UPS status says that it's "Out for delivery", instead of "WE LOST IT!!" like they told me when I was expecting my Blueburst 4004Cii.

Actually, UPS and Fed-Ex are pretty good around here. Since we live so far from just about everything, we order a lot of stuff over the net. Seems like they come almost every day. Actually, we do probably get at least 2 or 3 deliveries a week, often more.

Anyway, UPS is usually here between 11am and 12. Just a little more than 3 hours to go...

Unless they're late... :?
