Free Mellotron for Mac users

Post by dogload »

Hi- seems like ages since I've posted anything- must be losing the struggle with that work/ life balance thing!
First of all, apologies if this is in the wrong place, but I thought that those of us who post music might be interested
Anyway, I already posted this on the 'Rampant Recording Technique' board, but here it is again!

http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Audio/M-Tron.shtml

Apparently its a free trial version of the M-tron plugin for those of you who (rather inexplicably! ) still persevere with the Mac. Being an enlightened PC user, I haven't been able to try it, so don't know what (if any) are the limitations imposed on the plug-in. I do know that it is superb and I use it all the time. Hope you find it useful.

What are the terms of the trial? I mean, can you save files and everything normally? I'm just curious before I download ...

Hi Kira- I know nothing about it other than what it says on the website. I assume there WILL be limitations as it says free trial, so that may just be a time limit, but as I don't have a Mac I wouldn't be able to tell you. As it's a VST plugin and standalone, there are no files to save. If your sequencer supports VST I would imagine it works (within the unknown limitations of course).
I just happened upon the link coz I was looking to buy the third Soundbank CD (with extra MkII Mellotron sounds), which I can't get because the original M-Tron has been discontinued. This is no doubt why it is being offered as a freebie, in the hope of attracting buyers for the new M-Tron Pro.

I have heard that during the trial period if you attempt to play the intro to Watcher Of The Skies, the program will reformat your hard drive.

Cool! The keyboardist in the Lemon Antennas would love to get this software.
