No knocks on Beyonce...obviously a ton of talent. But if we're talking about this song, it's hands down Etta James. Her voice and phrasing make the lyrics so incredibly believable.

I don't actually hear much resemblance in their voices, as nice as the tribute sounds. I have to prefer Etta, as she is truly one-of-a-kind.

+1 Beyonce's redition's pretty close in terms of quality, but the nudge goes to Etta, for the reasons John's stated. Touching statement and embrace at the end of the Beoyonce video.

The expressiveness and articulation of Eta James goes right to the heart-strings. An amazing number. Her honest performance wins the day and she gets my vote.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
