Mapleglo 4003-8 String Seattle Craiglist
Very nice looking Mapleglo 8 stringer on this morning's Seattle Craiglist for $1800
http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/msg/1031570517.html
Happy to go check this out for any Forum members interested.
Further news, the seller contacted me, and it turns out this is the guy I bought my SVT-II from just before Christmas, and, this is also the same guy who has that lovely 72 Fireglo I posted about in "A Funny Thing Happened On the Way To Snohomish". Having met him, I'd say he's above board, and that the 4003-S is in as good a condition as it looks.

NICE! And the price doesn't seem too bad either.
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Look at the picture of the back - the wings at the neck joint area are separating.

Hey All,
I'm the owner of the 4003 8 string & thought I'd give y'all the scoop on it to clear up the misconceptions surrounding this beauty.
I took the chance on this beauty that others were not willing to take.
Had all the intentions of keeping it even though I had no 'need' for it.
As soon as it arrived immediate needs for funds came up hence the sale.
I took it over to Mike Lull to get his professional assessment.
After a bit of tuggin & pulling on the neck & body wings to see if there was any movement, there was none.
Then popping off the pickguard to take a look under the hood to if there were any hidden signs of structural damage.
He said it looks like it was stored at pitch in hot weather and the glue for the body wings loosened, the body wings shifted then when it cooled it set up again.
In conclusion he said it doesn’t need repair and that it’s now a cosmetic flaw (like scratches, dings or dents) & NOT structural issue & the action is well with in the Rickenbacker norm. He also said he wouldn’t do anything with the neck (adjusting) as that look fine as well.
He shook my hand and said have fun!
Just the news I expected & was hoping for.
Now, if Mike Lull gives this beauty a clean bill of health, but y'all who have never really seen or had the pleasure of playing it, just toss it out with the wash water because the previous owner (eBay power seller mind you) makes his own non-luthier assessment, well then there you have it.
This bass has got to be in THE best cosmetic shape I have ever seen on a 21 year old bass!
Aside from the seam thing, it's in mint condition (yes I know what that in tales). Not to mention it plays & sounds amazing!
I hope this helps clear up any questions you may have on this beauty.
