Could it be....... a V63?

He doesn't advertise it as a v63. Is it for certain a v63? It's a distant photo. I don't know these well enough, but could a horse shoe have been put on an s model to look like a v63? 660 some odd posts here and I'm still vacuous!

I got news for you. He says the serial number is 9916093.He claims he bought it from Guitar Center in 2001. I e-mailed him back and asked him to check the jack plate and let me know.

Why would that be news? The production year would gel with it being a v63, no? Lead me from my confusion to the path of knowledge!

Mine is H7 7984. I guess I didn't know they made serial numbers like that.So come with me from the path of knowledge into the land of the confused

Did they start that with the year 2000?I guess it would make sense then as he has a 2001.

The bass is an April 99, which is not unreasonable considering how slow they were moving before they stopped making them, what a difference now huh?

Yeah, if I remember rightly the serial number on my 8 string was similar (that was also a 99). Marc, he e-mailed me straight back and told me the same thing; he also said he'd ship to the UK. Which still leaves me with decisions to make....from noises that have been made at home I believe that I may receive a lot of grief over another bass at the moment (not that that would necessarily stop me!)I think my main concern (apart from the final selling price being too much!) is that, having been burnt once with a disappearing bass, I don't want it to happen with another....decisions, decisions.

The current serial numbering system has been used since 1999. First 2 digits indicate the year, first 2 of bottom digits the week of manufacture. 99-16093 means the bass was manufactured in the 16th week of 1999.

Paul, thanks, I'm still in the learning stages here.

Shaun, what I would do is pay the extra loot and go for UPS or FEDEX. For the extra $100-150 it's worth it. You can track it every day and know exactly where it is.Think of it like this, if he ships it directly to you instead of one of us who then reroutes it(after careful examination of every string and fret;-)) you just saved about $50. It's all about the bass.

The seller seems very nice, answered all my questions and the bass looks to be in top condition.You won't find too many like this.

For some reason the bass doesn't appear on the "my ebay" page even though I'm still the high bidder) which means that either I need to reboot my computer or it was meant to be in someone else's hands.

OTOH, that 59 won't go away....
