Lets see your 660's or 620's

Looking out for a 660AFG/12 in the UK, if anyone has one (also a 381AFG and a 381/12-AFG).

not seen to many 381`s recently there was one MG 381/12 in Glasgow but alas ive still to see another? infact is there any others for sale anywhere in the UK?

For me, the 660 is unrivalled, in terms of looks and playability (but I do have a few other models as well!).

Currently have the following 660s in my collection:

660-MB, 660/12-MB, 660-AFG, 660-JG, 660-75AE, 660/12TP-FG, 660/12TP-JG

I guess it goes without saying that you much prefer the 660's wider neck?..... especially for the 660/12?

That is a 620; 660s have checker binding, trapeze tailpiece, FW inlays (although new 620 have them also), toaster pickups, gold pickguards and TRC, vintage knobs. and vintage strap bolts.

Hello there Gregory!

Congrats on the vintage 1980 620 / 12. That's my favorite year for them - 1980 was the first year they went into general production. Before that they were either prototypes or special orders. Just think your new guitar was one of 40 or so they made that year... That makes it one of the first ever of that 12 string model.

Please add your guitar to the register - ideally with lots of pics! If you look you will find images of my two that you can compare yours to!

Can't help with the parts sadly, but a post into the Marketplace forum should help you find what you need.

Somewhat related to this thread, I am looking into getting either a 620/12 or a 660/12. I tend to like 60's pop and rock, ala Beatles, but also stuff like Cheap Trick. Any info anyone can share as to which would suit my needs?

Both of them are great guitars.... But there is a lot of variation between individual guitars... Your best bet is to go to a large urban centre and try out several examples to find one you like... It's all down to personal taste really.

For the me the favourable differences are the 660's wider neck, vintage pick-ups and vintage style tuners, the negatives are the checked binding and the gold TRC and Pickguard, I don't like the look of them on that model and they never went on the 1962 vintage 625's which were the models direct ancestor. For the 12 string, the wider neck is a real advantage.

If I could get a 660 with just plain white binding and the White Hardware, that for me would be the ideal guitar...

The 620's have a slimer neck, high gains and White pickguard and TRC... What I can't stand about the new ones is the Modern looking schaller tuners, even though I acknowledge that they there much better at staying in tune then the old Klusons of memory... Since I can't have these features on a new 620, it means modding a newer one or staying on the look out for a pre-1983 example used.

Both guitars are great for playing Beatles (obviously) and I believe the guitarist from Cheap Trick uses a 1960 450, so it be great for their music too! Not sure if they are into 12 strings though... It is harder to do bends and hammerons, but is the quintessential sound for Jangle pop/REM, etc.

Try them out and see what you think. Write some more after you have!

Thanks for the response, very helpful.

I would use a Rick 12 string mainly for rhythm and picking. I will try and check both out, though seems like I can't go wrong with either one. The wider neck is attractice, though I presently have a Taylor T5 12 string with a real fast and smooth neck.
