Companion for 620?
I'm luvin' my 620 so much, I want another Rickenbacker 6-string full-scale guitar. My only other guitar is a Tele, which I also like for a complete change of pace (and to remind me why I like my 620 so much...
). I am considering a 360 or a 350v63. I've ruled out a 330 purely from an aesthetic standpoint, although I'm sure it's a very fine guitar. The 360 is less expensive than the 350v63, but the 350v63 has the toasters which would be a significant tonal change from the hi gains in my 620. I could buy a 360 and change the pups to toasters, but then the total cost is approaching that of the 350v63. Although very different from each other, I like the aesthetics of both the 360 and the 350v63. The larger body on the 360 doesn't really matter to me, as it's still not really big like a Gretsch 6120 or some other huge one. The necks appear to have the same width specs as my 620, but what about the depth profile? Are they roughly the same? I like REM, The Smiths, and other "rock" music from that era (also even the Beatles, Tom Petty, etc, etc, etc) and the 360 seems to have been widely used by quite a few bands. But the 350v63 with toasters and "vintage" styling keeps drawing me to it. I'm sure it can handle multiple genres, especially with my small but growing assortment of stomp boxes. Either the 360 or the 350v63 appears to be a good compliment to my 620 for something "different", with maybe the 350v63 being "more different" than the 360. Both guitars look nice to me, both seem to be sufficiently different from my 620, and both apparently have neck width similar to what I'm used to. I just can't decide. Which one would you get and why? I have no local dealer, but the dealer I would buy from (over the phone, several hundred miles away) has both in stock. I am guessing the 350v63 won't be there long due to it being harder to find, so I need to decide fairly quickly. Please help!

Why not a 12-string?
Re: Companion for 620?
This is a tough one. As far as sound goes, the differences between the three are not that big. The 350V63 is about the same size as the 620 so the overall feel is similar, but the 350 is much lighter (due to its semi-hollow body).
To me, the 360 has a completely different feel than the 620. Although it is heavier, it is better balanced. The 360 also has a 24 fret neck compared to the 350's and 620's 21. Even if you don't use those extra frets, I think it contributes to the overall feel and playability of the neck (I like it but there are Rickenbacker enthusiasts that do not).
The only other significant difference, to me, is the tailpiece. It is much closer to the bridge on the 350 and the 620. If you tend rest your hand or wrist on the bridge, you may notice a difference. I think they are both comfortable, just different.

I'm not really looking for a 12-string at this point, but that's a future possibility.
Does anyone here know if the necks are all pretty similar in shape/dimensions between the current 620 (which I have), the 360, and the 350v63? The specs on the Ric web site indicate the same widths, but what about the depth/contouring?

That's a mixed bag really, I've found Rickenbacker necks can vary widely from guitar to guitar, with no regard to the model or year. From what I understand, the guitars coming out of the factory currently have necks on the slimmer side, with similar depth and contouring.robinje wrote:Does anyone here know if the necks are all pretty similar in shape/dimensions between the current 620 (which I have), the 360, and the 350v63? My 350V63 was made in 2001. It has the deepest, fattest neck that I have ever found on a Ric. My 620 is from 1987 and its neck is pretty narrow even by Ric standards. They're both comfortable, easy playing necks, just different.

Well, I went for the 350v63! That's the one that was really calling my name a little bit more than the 360. Mine will be Mapleglo. I put down a lay-away deposit and it will soon be mine... YIPPEE!

You're in for a treat. The 350V63 is a fun little guitar.
