Re: Larger Headstock
I too prefer the smaller headstock design and thankfully RIC has returned to its roots in that regards. I do have an 87 330FG which has the larger headstock. I have had it so long that it doesn't bother me now, although it did initially back in '87 ... it has fantastic playability and the tone is great.
Re: Larger Headstock
I'm late to this thread, but if I understand PW correctly, it's very feasible to narrow the headstock. If that's true, my 360 LH MG may be such a candidate; maybe even a complete refinish.jingle_jangle wrote:It's fairly simple (I know, I know, everything's relative!) to narrow the headstock, and I've done it to more than a few Ricks. Less than an hour's work with a spindle sander. But then the real work begins--the refinishing necessary to make it look like it started narrow. If the Rick is MG or JG, it's fairly straightforward. ...

Re: Larger Headstock
Here's another minority opinion: I am happy with the wider headstock. Of course I like greasy spoon cooking and Champale ("only pennies more than beer").

Re: Larger Headstock
I like the big headstock...but only on my 330.
Re: Larger Headstock
I prefer the narrower headstock. I also wonder whether the reduction in mass that accompanies the downsizing produces a change in tone.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Re: Larger Headstock
Would the vintage reissues have smaller headstocks?

I consider it a detail of little importance to myself when it comes to Rick's, but I can see how others would feel otherwise. As long as it has that general Rick shape, I don't think It'd bother me at all.

Re: Larger Headstock
In 10 years I can put my big headstock on Ebay and sell it for big bucks with its "rare, limited edition wide headstock"
In 15 I could say "vintage"

Re: Larger Headstock
Maybe a weird question... can someone post a picture with large and narrow headstock side by side? I never knew there were different kinds... and am wondering what kind my 360 has (that about shows how many Rickenbackers I've see in Holland - one, tbh).

Carefull sir, 5 turns in to 10 turns in to 20, just like rabbitts. It's ok, you're amongst friends here, and as soon as we get our international Rickenbacker Anonymous charter, we will be able to provide a free cup of coffee everytime we log onWildberry wrote:Reading these forums for 5 minutes per day teaches me more about Rickenbackers than I ever thought possible![]()
Glad to have you here, I've learned a ton of information here, and usually learn something new everytime I log on. At the very least, it's always entertaining.
