Winwood Can Still Bring It

Post by goofyfoot »

Traffic. Winwood. Scored all of their LPs when they were released. There was something cool about him when he sat down to play the Hammond B-3 organ or strapped on a Gibson Firebird. Maybe it was because he was only 18 when Traffic was formed, not much older than we 7th-graders. Man, over three decades after I first saw Traffic in January, 1973 at Bill Graham's Winterland in San Francisco, these clips demonstrate Steve Winwood can still bring it. That concert was one of the five best I've ever seen. Here he is with his close pal Slowhand as they perform these two songs penned by Winwood for the "Blind Faith" LP. Put yer headphones on, brothas and sistahs, cuz the audio mix is gosh darn solid.

Alright, young'uns. This is how it's done. Keep on keepin' on.......Goofyfoot.

(I've opted not to imbed the vid due to compression loss. Performances are from July, 2007.)

Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.

For those who are Winwood-Traffic fans, check out the excellant link:

I find the old news articles from New Music Express and Rolling Stone from '67-68-69-70 pretty interesting, especially as Dave Mason was quitting and rejoining Traffic several times and just trying to keep track of Traffic's musical-chairs band line-up over the years.
