Hi Matt, welcome to the forum! Thanks for posting that and clearing things up! It's pretty hard to make an assessment on a flaw such as that with just pictures, one has to assume the worst. Your taking the chance and then getting it checked out is great, we now know a lot more about that bass. Plus, the fact that you've joined means anyone interested can contact you and get even more details!
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
