Hey Bob, which dorm did you live in? My 4002 spent lots of time in Tarkington hall back in the 80's
I was in Tarkington Hall SE3 in 1985-1986.

I was in NE2 about the same time.
Wow, this sounds like old home week! I was in Harrison for a semester in '77, but couldn't really stand the dorm life and moved off campus. But, I was outta there by '84...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

I disagree. I have quite a few case queens. Once I got them, I adjusted them and set them up to be killer players, ready to rock for 20 years and then some.

And I've also played plenty of heavily-used basses that had worn out frets, rusty bridges that didn't work any more, electronics that needed attention, cracked necks that were adjusted by someone that didn't know what they were doing, layers of dark mysterious scum on them that rubs off on your hands when played, broken or compromised hardware, broken cases that were missing handles, latches, smelled moldy or like cat pee or like smoke...

I'll take the case queen. It's usually less work to make it good.

Just because someone bought a bass and ended up not being a gig-every-night professional musician doesn't mean the bass is defective. And just because a bass has been played a lot doesn't mean it has any magical superior playability or tonality either.

That's my experience anyway. YMMV.

Ahhhh.......the Shadow!

I've owned a few of them ;^)

but don't currently own any ;^(

They are wonderful basses and I regret selling all of them.....I went through a period where I just bought a bass , played it, and moved on to the next one....

Unfortunately, when my last pc crashed, I lost ALL of my Shadow pics....I have a backup system now, but no pics survived that incident.....

PLEASE post your Shadow pics!

....and I do still have my list of Shadows and it's up to 27.....forum members have been emailing me with their numbers. In the 4 years or so i've been keeping track, the same one's keep showing up in auctions or here on the forum....with the occassional flyer :)

It seems to me you had 4 of them at one time. That has to be a record.

Totally agreed, Ted. Chris has got to be the only person on earth that once had 4 Shadows at the same time. The record has yet to be broken!

Here's my October '86 Shadow:

Love those Shadows! I don't like black hardware - but it works on this bass. I don't like binding - but I'd go for checkerboard, especially with the black outer edge. I DO like dot inlays - but black... ehhh. :|
