What, you just found this out?
Re: Chris Clayton @ Pick of the Ricks
Chris is as awesome as the guitars he sells!
Re: Chris Clayton @ Pick of the Ricks
Old news.......but oh, so true. Are there any better knowledgeable dudes who can set up a Rickenbacker better than Chris or Gary @ North Coast Music? No question about it ---- Chris IS the salt of the earth. My dos centavos worth. Late.......Goofyfoot.

Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.

I just spent an hour with Chris yesterday. He put an unbelievable set-up on my new 660/12 AFG (complete with TI flatwounds), and he always has time to talk - about anything. His Rick knowledge is unsurpassed, and when you do business with Chris, you ALWAYS get top-shelf treatment. He's become a true friend to lots of us; he and Shelby did a wonderful job with the recent MARF last October, and made everyone feel valued and welcome. I always feel good after doing a deal with Chris; I know that I've been treated fairly, and he always goes above and beyond what a typical retailer should do for his customers.
Last year, I wrote that Chris should get the DEALER OF THE YEAR award from RIC every year, and that opinion has been fortified every time we do business.
Chris is THE MAN !

Couldn't agree more; Chris is a great guy and runs a top-notch business.
I have spent hours lusting after some of the gear he has in his collectible pages.
I've only purchased a few small parts and some strings from POTR, but he treated my order with the same importance as somebody who had bought a new instrument.
Thanks a lot Chris, and keep up the good work!

I had posted a separate mini review in my post above, but thought again and edited it out; sounded too much like a ronco commercial... but yes! - Tried them, and like them.woodyng wrote:ok so i was just looking at the website scott linked, and noticed "curt mangan" strings. they show one bass set nickle rw 45-105 (labelled "LITE"?) has anybody tried these? the ad sez they are manufactured to rickenbacker gauge standard. i really like dr sunbeams a lot,but am intrigued.....yeah also all the good stuff i have heard about potr over the years makes me wish i lived nearby....
They are great sounding, seem to have a good life span, and the price is decent, too...but wait! There's MORE!
Great strings for people who don't want to modify their nuts.**

I think they feel smoother than rotos, about like the DR lowriders I've used- but I don't know if it's because they're nickel, not stainless or what.woodyng wrote:thanks, mike! are the strings pretty smooth like dr's? i don't care for the feel of rw rotosounds (rough).
To me they are very much like factory strings.

I'm very fortunate to live 35 mins away! There are some jewels in there, and the biggest is Chris. He also plays in a band called "The Toons". I heard he is now playing his custom Laredo more than his Fender P!!! Yeah!!!
