IIRC, there are no accounts of them being together that late in the 70's/early 80's. Doesn't mean it couldn't of happened. But if the two of them were seen / photographed on the streets of New York, someone would have blabbed!

I read somewhere that Paul and Linda used to "drop in" at the Lennons' occasionally in those years (maybe not quite that late in John's life) at Paul's instigation and to play a few songs and try to maintain some sense of comeraderie. John was usually embarrassed by these visits, but tolerant, according to the account (sorry can't cite it, can anyone spot me on this?).

So if it's not real, it doesn't seem that far-fetched (not knowing the exact date of their last visit). Am I completely off base here?

I recall this, Kira If not mistaken it was at the time SNL was trying to get them together. It was around the time George and Paul Simon appeared on SNL

yes, I know that happened at least once.... Paul just showed up, guitar in hand. I remember reading that John was very annoyed.

But after looking again, it does strike me that the lighting is different on the two of them; the shadows don't make sense, although the composition is excellent.

In "Many Years From Now," Paul says he would occasionally drop by John's place during that time. If I recall correctly from the book, he wrote that John pulled him aside and said something to the effect that they he shouldn't really do the old drop-by thing because John had responsibilities at home and it wasn't like it used to be - something to that effect.

I believe both John and Paul pleased to have a bit of their old relationship back. May Pang says that Macca invited John to New Orleans or wherever he was recording and it almost happened. After a while, I too have read, it became tougher on John to be as free as the old days, and then he got annoyed at Macca dropping in unannounced.

Part of the reason for that has to be placed on Yoko. She was very controlling of John and would plan his schedules based on numerology. But, in the end, it was John's decision to be controlled or not so I cant totally blame her (although I'd like to).

Gawd... 1980 was such a tragedy.

I don't think that '79-'80's photo is real. The dead give away to me is how much taller John seems to be. Macca does look like he's leaning a bit to his right, but John looks to be a good 4 to 5 inches taller. Based on most historical accounts Lennon was a good few inches shorter than Macca. Maybe John had on a pair of platform shoes with 6" heels, it was the "80s you know. :D

Paul was the tallest Beatle but I dont think he was "a few inches" taller than John.

According to:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005200/bioPaul: 5'11"
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0006168/bioJohn: 5' 11"

http://members.shaw.ca/harbord/heights2.html also has them both at 5'11"

This one gives the edge to Paul
http://www.celebritywonder.com/html/paulmccartney.htmlPaul: 5'11"
http://www.celebritywonder.com/html/johnlennon.htmlJohn: 5' 10"

Photos can be misleading, but I'd give the edge to Paul... one inch MAX.

As for Ringo, I see mentions of him anywhere from 5'6" to 5'8", the later being a bit too generous in my opinion.

I think you got it right about their heights, Kent.

But it's hard to say about the photo from the pose. It might be right. Paul stands behind John (foreshortened) and may be stooping a bit as well, and John may be wearing boots and Paul flat soles, but there's not enough information. I vote fake because of the shadows (soft on Paul, hard on John) and tonal discrepancy in their faces. It's a good job if I'm right, other than that.
