I would say that Harrison and his 360/12 were involved.

On the opening riff. . . the one with the finger-fretboard buzz at the beginning, mildly overdriven?

I always thought that was a great opening, the way it starts out quiet and they turn the volume up as it kicks in. Sounds to me like George on his Tennessean and the secret is to leave the high E string ring out on the E at the 7th fret and the D at the tenth fret(that is, don't fret the last string, the high E on those chords).

The intro uses the 360/12 and the first eight strings with the high E string ringing out each cord stroke (important). It is started on the tenth fret. The 360 is only used on the intro and the outro. The other two guitars that are used for the bulk of the song are the J 160E and the Tennessean. All three guitars are actually part of the intro and the outro. Who played what? Harrison was on the 360 and probably the Tennessean although Paul could have been playing the Tennessean. The J 160E could have been Paul or John. But, then again, I'm in no way an expert. Image

Your right, Dr evil! It's possible that instead of the guitar being upside down, Paul was! At any rate. Skip the Paul comment and that limits who was playing the Tennessean to George or John and I've never seen any evidence where John picked up and played the Tennessean to add to a recording. Image
