That's great! Thanks very much for the photographs.. (I collect them BTW - I call them my RIC porn collection)

Yours is TB 372, which may be one of the earliest copies of the production model 12 string, perhaps the 10th or 12th one they made. Please add your guitars to the registery, hopefully with a few images too.. The database is important to track numbers

Here is what is in the registry for that model. Exactly six of them... Somewhere I seem to recall reading that RIC made
only 40 or 50 of them that first year - in reaction to the Tom Petty DAMN THE TORPEDOES lp cover which came out the previous fall.

These pre-1980 examples were all prototypes or special orders... Richard Smith's book mentions a 1969 620 / 12 with three pickups going to Canada too.

My two FG 620 /12's were TF 2140 (lost in a fire 1991) and TK 4610 which I bought off Ebay last year. These guitars are really under appreciated IMHO, but I just love the the smaller headstocks and the old style tuners... The fireglos have aged so beautifully too...

Again congrats on a great guitar and kudos to you for trying to get it back to original. One last little detail, my June guitar had a TRC with no model number, while the November guitar the TRC says model 620. Both are therefore correct for period images from this time period. (It would likely be very hard to find a TRC that says model 620 these days).

wow, god lord hope I don't pop the lid and take pictures of the body cavity!
Thats great information, btw. It is really hard to play, clumsy fingers, but still sounds great.
I'll make some more porn for you. The registry, hmm, kinda like tattooing numbers on ones skin... better get my alum foil hat.

Thanks, The original owner bought it, played if for a couple years, then went to prison for 15 years. It sat in his fathers closet until last week that entire time.

Greg:

Well... I am glad that you ended up with it... Far too nice a guitar to sit in a closet for 15 years.. I wonder where the TRC went? Being separated from your RIC is truly doing "hard time" if you ask me.. :D

I have a similar story about a RIC in the closet, that I will tell next week...

The guy said he'd look for it, but my guess he won't as he is busy trying to get a job with a prison record...yikes. I'll keep bugging him.

I'd say the name scrawled in black must have been one of the previous owners!

Here's my '08 620FG 6-string. FG sure seems to be a popular finish option for this model!

Jim:

That is a nice guitar! The fireglow is almost 1950's Autumn glo! Love the full width inlays too. Just can't stand the Schaller tuners!

Good score... And what songs do you play on it?

Me I spent the day trying to learn the 12 string riff from the WONDERS song I NEED YOU, from the soundtrack to some obscure Tom Hanks flick... (I think the guy is using a capo?)

Wow rick, you sure did a great job photographing that 660! It looked good when it was up for sale, but those shots make it look fantastic
