dane-i had given that very idea some thought....i also thought about converting my 74 4000 to the 50's look.....i kind of hate to mess with either of them,though,if i could find an inexpensive dot neck carcass.....

Adding the horseshoe to the boutique would be the perfect "next life" for this part since I feel that horseshoed reissues need a rest for awhile. One thing I could see coming back with it though would be the 200 or so CS4001s that were never produced due to a mix-up in the original serial number sequence. This time around the instrument could be truly accurate with the proper surround, guard and use of original materials instead of the African vermillian used the first time around. Woody, a guard for your bass could be made to fit all the existing hardware that would have the original 50's shape yet be attached with double sided tape. Even an inexpensive carcass costs big bucks once all RIC parts are sourced to build it.

Even something as mundane as adding the Horseshoe to the boutique would make for much rejoicing and not significantly impact the backlog.

My money's on a 4001v68 or something like that. What's the difference between a v63/c64 and an RM 1999 anyway? Aren't they basically the same thing?

Perhaps there won't be a new bass, but a convergence of the vintage 4001 and standard 4003 lines. With the 4003 getting vintage features added to it over the last couple years, it just makes sense that these two lines would converge into the same instrument with so little difference betwee them now. It would help cut down on the backlog too. Checkered binding on a larger scale would be the only obstacle.

Yes, exactly. In order to keep the SKU# down, such a bass would have only one option other than color and that would be a vintage pickup option(Horseshoe &Toaster), with all the other vintage features being standard.

I'm coming up empty here....I'm stumped.

A 4002 would be amazing, especially a fretless version, but with exotic wood being harder and harder to get, I don't know...Ebony fingerboards are the cats a@@, but E X P E N S I V E....does anyone know if Ginger's FL had an Ebony fingerboard?

I hope that WHATEVER RIC comes out with, it has a fretless option. The À la carte thing is a cool idea, but wouldn't that only jam up the production line again?

A HS & TOASTER combination personify RIC for me. I'm diggin the 4004 so I'm really glad RIC isn't going to discontinue it, seems like the WORD is just getting out now about them. PLUS, it is a KILLER foundation for an 8 string, and it would make a killer fretless as well. Seems to me the 4004 is on the launch pad for a lot of cool things.

My 3 wishes are....

1) Some kind of semi-acoustic modeled on the 330, 360 or 381 foundation.
2) 4002 RI so long as it has the KILLER wood option.
3) $$$$ to pay for whatever it is! .....and the HS back in the Boutique!

Now, let me get this straight:

- The 4002 was a cutting edge bass that didn't sell and so was discontinued;
- The 4005 was a bass that sold in small numbers and was discontinued;
- We all (yep, me too) want to see them reissued.

There's something in that chain that doesn't make sense, but I can't put my finger on it.......
