"Goodbye" Bootleg Tabs???

Post by Bosifis1 »

I've always adored this song and really want to learn how to play it correctly. In the key of Cmajor(believe it's slightly flatter than that) .

Has anyone attempted it? Tabbed it out? I know it's played like "Her Majesty" but I just can't figure it all out, especially the intro!!!

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks kids!

Found this online today. It helps a bit, but I still can't figure the intro. Also, what's the chord he plays after the 1st Fmajor in the verse?

Dm, I believe.

I'm thinking Mary Hopkin played the same chords as McCartney's bootleg, just capoed up a few frets. There are numerous videos of her playing on youtube, but I'm not sure which one is the best. You might be able to get some chords from there. As for the picking, I haven't been able to figure that out yet, either. I got stuck on the first note of the intro

I'm thinking that the chord is a Dm (1st position) - same as the passing chord between the C and G chords leading into the chorus (C-Dm-G-G). What a great song...

Ryan, thanks for the Dm. I just couldn't get it for some reason. Also, thanks for the other Dm J.W.! I was trying to figure out that "ghost chord" before the chorus...playing it slow didn't sound right, but when I play it at the correct speed, hitting the Dm quickly sounds spot on. Figures, it's always the simplest answer! Speaking of that......

I was trying to figure out his tuning since it's slightly off. I never learned how to tune by ear so I use the trusty chromatic tuner. Was he a 1/2 step down? 3/4 step? Turns out, if you want to play along with the song, you have to tune your guitar about a 1/4 step down! If you use a tuner it's just between E and Eb, A and Ab, etc.

Next-What alternating bass notes do you use in the chorus(Again, it's probably the simplest answer)? It doesn't seem 100% but I've been playing:

Good- bye Good-bye, etc.......
D---------------0------------------0----
A--------2-----------2--------2-------2
G--3----------------------3------------
Seem right???

Figured the ending too. There was a chord I couldn't get but finally realized it was an Am with a G bass note-
C--C/B--Am7--Am7/G--F--Fm--C (Keep the G note on the 1st string until the F and Fm).

Now, if we can just get that INTRO!!!

Thanks and enjoy.

The obsession continues.......

I've been fooling around with this for the chorus:

Good- bye Good-bye, My Love God-bye
D--------------3----0-----3---0----3----0-
A-------2-----------------------------------
G--3----------------------------------------
What'ya think?

And finally.....(drum roll)...THE INTRO!!!!!!

B ----10-----8 \ 6-----5----3 \ 1----0---0--|C
G ----10-----9 \ 7-----5----4 \ 2----0------|Chord

Hope this helps! What does everyone thinK? Let's put this baby to rest!

I was wrong with my recommendation of the tuning. It's slightly sharper from Eb, Ab, Db, etc.......
