Hello,
I've had the C64 since December '05, and just today took some proper shots of it. It was a lot harder than I thought, but fun nonetheless. All but headstock were shot using single strobe/umbrella. Headstock is natural light.
The 4003 is an '03. Both bought new.

Great work Andrew!
Lighting an instrument is not an easy thing to do and have it look great without unwanted reflections, shadows, etc. Especially with just one light. Did you use any reflectors to bounce the light into deep shadows?
Re: 4001c64 & 4003
Thanks guys, for the nice comments. The fireglo is a really nice shade, and I think it has blended a little over the 3 years. The transition areas have become a little smoother and gradual, particularly on the front.
As for the lighting, I used the strobe bounced into the umbrella, from about 4-5 feet, and slightly off-center---maybe 15 degrees. Using the single light, I didn't want to venture too far out of center, or else I would have cast stronger shadows from knobs and other features. No reflectors were used.
I had fun taking them, and will try some more in the next few days.

The closer the light source is to the subject the larger it is effectively creating softer shadows. Experiment with moving the umbrella closer to the basses and try a white reflector using 1/4" foamcore as it can be cut to size easily and is very light weight and stiff.

Hey Jeff,
Your suggestions sound excellent, and I'll try them out when I take another batch of shots. I'll try a reflector as well, especially to try to get the sides and top illuminated more. Many thanks!
