and the bridge pickup makes a most excellent thumb rest , there's something I thought I'd never say
Re: My new 4004 Cii BBR
Tony, glad you took to it. While the neck looks and is wider, it has a small front to back dimension and is indeed comfortable. I have bigger hands, so fat, thin, wide, makes no difference to me, but comfort-wise, I have not uh, fretted (
) over the differences because they are so darn comfortable.
Wait till you try flats on that bad boy!

Re: My new 4004 Cii BBR
I called the factory today to check on my bass and it is finished!!!!!!! They said the pickups were replaced and my side dot fret marker was fixed. (I never mentioned it here, but my 12th fret side markers were making a 45 degree angle with the board. I wouldn't have sent it back for that, but since it was going I went ahead and mentioned it...) I didn't even know that would be possible. It should have shipped out tonight so, if I'm very lucky, I may get it on Friday. More than likely, it will be here Monday. Only another week...
I have read mixed reviews over the past couple of years on the customer service department, but, I must say, I didn't have any problem with this return. The hardest part was waiting for the card to get to the factory. Once that was there, it took a five minute phone call to arrange the return and, today, about a five minute phone call to check on the repair and verify my address for return shipping. Everyone was polite and easy to talk to. It's certainly disappointing to have to file a warranty repair, but this went as smoothly as one could hope and keeps RIC on my list of preferred suppliers (if only I was able to buy another guitar...

Ryan, thanks for the update. On the chance of sounding like a tool, I've noticed if there is a legit problem with an instrument, RIC has been very good at taking care of the problem. Turn around times are really decent too, especially considering the repairs probably take someone off the assemble line to look at it and fix it.

Re: My new 4004 Cii BBR
did she return home yet ?
Re: My new 4004 Cii BBR
She came back a week ago Saturday. I've been waiting for a good day so I could take some pictures, but the days and the times haven't quite lined up yet. It just snowed here last night and it's cold! This weekend is supposed to be much warmer and I should be able to take some additional pictures.
The folks at RIC customer service replaced both pickups, the side neck dot (still have no idea how this was done), and adjusted the action to factory specs. I got it on a Saturday (yea FedEx!) and played it at church on Sunday (I opened it a bit sooner than recommended, but my house is pretty cool - temperature wise, I mean
). There is still a difference in volumes when both pickups are selected, but not nearly as bad as it was before. The tone is much better in that position, too. Much more even across the range. The pickups are awesome. The only thing I did was adjust the treble pickup down a bit to even its volume with the bass pickup. After a week of travel, the neck and action are great and no need to adjust those.
The only thing that worries me a little, and this no fault of RIC's, is the neck is a bit wide. It isn't uncomfortable yet, but I have noticed that my hand is a little bit flatter than I'm used to when I play the E string. I had a Yamaha RBX 775 (5-string) and the wide neck bothered me a little. That's one of the reasons I got rid of it. I hope this doesn't happen with this bass.
hmmm...time to play a little
