Have the Searchers ever played Carnegie Hall or The Royal Albert Hall during their most popular days?

Saw them at the Brooklyn Fox in Sept. '64- Murray the K's Rock 'n Roll Show. Saw them (as part of a British Invasion Show) at the Garden in'72. Heard they played Adventureland (unverified) in summer '64. Carnegie Hall? No.

John: I would be interested in your impressions of the 1964 and 1972 performances and how the Searchers may have changed, if at all, with regard to stage presentation. What were they like without Chris?

Pete,

I've actually seen the Searchers live in '64,'72,'85 (Canoe Place Inn- a bar in Hampton Bays, N.Y, '86- 1st appearance post-Pender- British Invasion Tour Westbury, and '98 & 2000(Mohegan Sun).

The '64 Show was at the height of the Liverpool Explosion. They did three songs (Can't be sure because of the girls' screaming):"Needles and Pins", "Someday We're Gonna Love Again" (the then current single", and (I believe)"Ain't that Just Like Me". They wore the suits, had those amazing "buffalo horn" white and blue guitars, and even when rocking, stayed in place. They didn't interface much with the audience.

The '72 show was a British Rock Revival. They didn't headline (and they were the only "intact"-more or less band on the bill). The suits were gone, the hair was long, John had a beard and they looked a bit scruffy. The music was solid, but the song selection left a little to be desired. They did a 15 minute "Southern Man" just before "Needles", with John playing a blistering solo (to my surprise- I still thought of Mike as lead axe). But the damn thing went on forever, breaking the momementum they had going from their own then fairly well known repetoire. Frank then compounds it by announcing, before the song that it might be a good time for a bathroom break before "Needles" (Song selection at certain spots in their shows occasionally puzzles me, as does the length of some of the songs) But overall a very impressive outing. More interaction-Frank was just starting as front man- a job Chris had in '64, but a fair way from the easy patter he's since developed.

If you want to know about the other shows, let me know.I have the program and the song list I did from memory the next day from the '72 show.

John: Great comments. I would like to have you post the song list and make any additional comments you may have with regard to the 1972 show. Perhaps you could post it under a new topic to make it stand out more on this forum. Also, would you comment on Mike's Rickenbacker Model 1993 Fireglo 12-string in 1972 and John's Rickenbacker 620/12 Jetglo in 1998 and 2000. Were these instruments used?
