At last!! My white 330
At last my white 330 arrived on Tuesday together with its case.
I was delighted to see it as you can all imagine, but it looked more battered and dirtier than I remembered!!
This 330 has been gigged hard. It is only a year old and came out of the factory in fireglo. The new owners stripped it and repainted it white, but they only repainted the body and front of the headstock. The neck is bare wood as you can see from the pictures I hope to upload in a minute!!
The paint job doesn't look bad from a short distance away, better than I remembered, but up close.........
It also STANK!!!! Stale sweat mostly. I mean.... it really did stink!!
I spent almost 3 hours taking it apart (as much as I could) and cleaning it with Dettol. The neck was filthy and so was the body, with black sweat marks on it. I then polished it with guitar polish and restrung it. When I had finished....oh wow!!! What a difference!! It almost beamed with pride and relief!!!
It has no upper pickguard and the lower pickguard is cracked and a bit missing. There is a piece of someones credit card jammed under the back of the switch to fill the hole!! Also, the bridge cover is missing.
I want to leave it as is as much as possible due to its "interesting" previous owners, but as I have bought it to play and not keep in the case, I will have to replace the bridge cover (I like resting my hand on it when picking).

Some more pictures
So, poor little thing is a bit of a misfit, but that is why I liked it.

Congrats, so, how does it sound and play? Very interesting paintjob and bare wood parts. I love the white with chrome hardware, not a fan of black. Nice one there Sarah

Fantastic Sarah. I am glad it worked out as planned. Congrats. I can't wait to hear it on one of your recordings.

Ah, SMikey, it plays just fabulous.!! Just rings out beautifully and even though the neck is bare, it feels good. I do need to seal the neck as the fact that it smelt so badly of sweat suggests it has seeped into the wood!! It does still smell a bit, though nothing like as bad. Jingle jangle has given me some advice about sealing it.
Thanks Brian.
I am looking forward to playing it at rehearsal on Sunday and then maybe playing it at our gig on Thursday. I can post some piccys of it in action then.

Thanks Brian.

That's nice Sarah. I quite agree......love the white trim and the chrome hardware!!
Re: At last!! My white 330
Nice one, Sarah........ I like the fact that you basically want to keep it as it is - apart from sealing the neck.
Very individual and heaps of mojo!!
Congrats!!

Everything Aitch said, Sarah...it's neat/cool/hip. And stinky, but that can be fixed.

Congrats, Sarah!
From the second photo it looks like the white is painted over the FG!

Nice one Sarah, I'm envious - I'd love a white 330. I've often thought of buying one to re-finish in white, although I'd probably start from a Mapleglo so the red doesn't show through
It's got a good vibe about it - who is the previous "interesting" owner? Is it sprayed with white car paint, and what are you gonna seal it with?
That will look very cool on stage. Nice.

That's really nice looking -- who refinished it that is so "interesting"? I think that white on white would make a great stock Rickenbacker color.
Re: At last!! My white 330
That really is a nice guitar, Sarah. I rather like the contrast between the white body & front headstock with the unfinished neck. I think I'd do the same too; leave it as is, and seal the bare wood.
