660/6 Pickup change???
I play in a band that play original music. It is a heavy or power pop sound. I play a Les paul Jr that sounds okay. I really love my 660/6 AFG. I happen to have a new set of hi gain pick ups. Is there any reason I should not put them on the 660 for added gain? I am not playing the Rick for any jangly sounds. I have a 360 for that.
I also have a nice Fulltone boost pedal. I could maybe use that instead.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Go for it, you can easily change back if you don't like it.

These are scatterwounds, right? I could use some for my 1993/12 project...
Talk to me if you want to get rid of the toasters.

I took the HB's off of my 650 and put Hi Gains, like it very much. Brighter, not like toasters though.
And I use a fulldrive w/it, good combo.

As did I but with toaster covers. I also like the 12K toasters on six strings.shamustwin wrote:I took the HB's off of my 650 and put Hi Gains, like it very much. Brighter, not like toasters though.

Re: 660/6 Pickup change???
I like the hi gains about the best of any pickup through which I've played (probably several hundred different kinds), since there is such a variety of sound possibilities and all are great with them. It took me a while to get used to the toasters, but I've grown to like them- but I mostly play my 660's clean.
One of the surprising things about switching back to my 370/6 with high gains for a bit after playing with the toasters a lot was just how much extra gain they had (than the toasters). It was very easy to get distortion out of the front end of my amps.

If they are the new hi-gains, I would say give it a shot, as they are supposed to be a lot less muddy than the ones they replaced. I have a set of the older(2005)hi gains, and did not like them, so I replaced them with toasters. I am also a fan of playing loud, distorted guitar when the situation calls for it. I'd actually like to try a set of the new ones in my 330.
