I agree with the majority here. Since you already have two '60's F$nders, why get one that isn't different? I also agree with the statement about: just because it is a '60's F$nder, doesn't mean it's good. I've played a bunch that were complete dogs.
Another note: I've never seen paddle / oval tuners on a P-bass. I'm pretty sure them only came on JB's like this '65.

I have seen one P bass with paddle tuners in an interview with it's owner ( the bass was not interviewed!) in the UK Bass Guitar Magazine a few years ago.

nobody's mentioned the $$ values involved here,but if the p bass is a good,light one,it seems like it would be worth a helluva lot more than the 2 basses you would be trading for it.....i would say go for it....one of the nicest playing,best sounding basses i ever picked up was a '66 p. i sold a 68 tele bass a year or so back that was really nice,but it couldn't hold a candle to that '66.

Dilemmas, dilemmas. I'd have to agree about keeping the C64; it's one bass that I wish I'd never parted with. Good P-Basses are a dime a dozen, it just takes a little perseverance weeding through the garbage to find the gems. There really shouldn't be much difference between your '64 and the '66 other than minor cosmetics; such as the logo and the lollipop tuners. Granted the tuners are a cool touch and are as rare as hen's teeth.

I had a '66 P-Bass with lollipop tuners and to be honest, I never really noticed they were different until I saw a friend's '71. A tuning machine is a tuning machine - as long as it works properly it doesn't matter what it looks like.

I'm a putz! I just did a quick look around g-base and found a P-bass with ovals. Mainly Tele basses and JB's though.

If you do decide to do the deal,make sure its all orginal .66 was a good year for Fender (Nitro finish,ovals,berzilain rosewood,trans logo)
