Re: Geddy's Bass Line on CTTH
Nope. De Soto. About a '56, from the sound of it...
Re: Geddy's Bass Line on CTTH
Geddy's fingernails sound good on the 4001, but I wish he'd lay off using 'em on the chalkboard...
...or is that the vocal track?

I didn't get where I am today by being on time...

Totally different bassline than what's played live. Esp the guitar solo section.

I read an interview with Geddy the other day where he said that he used it on Bangkok to stop people from asking him to use it again (can't remember where, but if I find it I'll post a link). His bass tech said the neck required a lot less attention from gig to gig than the Jazz does (which makes me feel a bit better about mine).bobcat wrote:Geddy played the Ric on the Snakes & Arrows Tour . . . albeit just for one song, but it was "A Passage to Bangkok...
The Farewell to Kings Rickenbacker tone is why I got a Ric.
AFTK tone certainly caused me to take notice of what bass he was playing. ESL sealed the deal...
On a related note (or two!), is there anybody out there who can play the little bass break in Strangiato consistently to perfection? If so, would you care to send me your fingering? I'm finding my take on it a bit hit & miss and we've tightened up the rest of LVS so much it's a glaring fumble at that bit sometimes.

Haha, that bass break is a pain in the butt, but if you just practice it over and over, you'll get it. You want me to send the notation I use to your email? I can probably record it at some point and put up an mp3. Though my playing is pretty sloppy.jon wrote:I read an interview with Geddy the other day where he said that he used it on Bangkok to stop people from asking him to use it again (can't remember where, but if I find it I'll post a link). Yes, I'd be interested to get a look at how you're doing it. I've a feeling I'm making it harder than it need be. If you can't see my email, PM me and I'll pass it on. Thanks

Re: Geddy's Bass Line on CTTH
I think there's a possibility that it's not Geddy...maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the RUSH tunes for the guitar hero/rock band games were cover versions?
Rickenbacker 4003 - Epiphone Viola - Fender Jazz - G & L SB-1
Re: Geddy's Bass Line on CTTH
I'm afraid you are wrong.
On Rock Band, Closer to the Heart, Working Man & the entire Moving Pictures album are all actual Rush recordings. The version of Working Man is different to the album version as the multitracks for that particular take could not be found.
Watch them attempt to play Tom Sawyer from the game here:

EDIT: Actually, I think it's just the guitar solo in Working Man that's different.

I stand happily corrected, thanks Jon!

Re: Geddy's Bass Line on CTTH
Jon, hilarious vid, thanks. Looks like me trying to play GH on my son's setup. I try to play it and not time the strum to the small window and get booed off the stage!
Re: Geddy's Bass Line on CTTH
I don't need some silly game to get booed off the stage, I'm quite capable of that on my own!

You too huh?Freez wrote:I don't need some silly game to get booed off the stage, I'm quite capable of that on my own!
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
