Many of the recent FG finishes have been absolutely stunning, and it looks like you got one of those. I had a 4004L FG for a while, and the edges are a rich, dark, brownish red, fading very gradually to maple in the very center.

Really gorgeous. Best of all, of course, the sound turns you on! The finishes can be so pretty that it seems easy to forget sometimes that ultimately the bass has to make you want to play it, not just look at it. Sounds like you got the best of both worlds.

Enjoy!

My impression of the sound of the 09 basses is that they are very "crackly"--the Hi-Gains sound even more potent with the tone knobs full on (full of lethal energy). Oh, and the tone knobs seem even better quality! Maybe I was just "high" when I first played my '09 but I really have the lasting impression that it has a hotter, stronger tone than previous 4003s (and that's saying something). I actually found it to be perfect for emulating Tool-esque sounds right out of the box--my favorite for rock tone. Later, with TIs and some adjustments to the Hi-Gain poles, I got a great jazz tone from it. Frode, I'm so glad you like yours too!

Wonderful new FG's all around, gentlemen. I'm getting serious RAS for a new 4003!

The only thing I´m gonna chance is to remove the horse shoe cover. It´s a bit in the way when playing.
