I haven't read this entire thread (so maybe someone here already addressed this) but maybe he/Ric issued such a vauge statment knowing all too well that everyone here would chime in on different models and or features they wanted. Therefore getting ideas on what they feel most of us want. In other words they don't even know what the next bass will be and in fact we are designing it right now. I remember when the DCM's came out some people felt the 75th's should have had horeshoes, checked binding ect. (much to JH's dismay I recall). Now that we're telling them what we would like, the majority of us may be happy and Ric won't hear too much complaining.

How about a SHORT scale 4 string bass, ONE pick up, neck position only, toaster, neck through, traditional Rick headstock and body, one tone and one volume knob, and offer it in colors like banana yellow and seafoam green???

Maybe it is not a new guitar or bass at all.

Maybe it is a whole new LINE of guitars and basses made at a lower price point for more of an "intro to Rickenbacker"?

No one has guessed it yet (who knows, maybe someone did in these many guesses) but could it be?

Or maybe they finally got some more T-shirts made. Who knows?

Not likely, IMO.

Seafoam Green is a neat color, but much of its appeal is in its rarity. As for banana yellow, it is one color that I've never seen look good on any guitar. That's right, any.

I have a large safety cabinet, filled with cans of paint from guitar projects over the last few years. There is one can of yellow--a nice, creamy yellow, mixed for my Gretsch 120th Anniversary Pro Jet. That's it.

(Although I'll be mixing some Chris Squire Custard soon!)

I do have a Waterstone TP-2 12 string bass in yellow that may change your mind. To my eyes it looks amazing.

Coop, I did once have a TV Yella SG junior. This was done in the days of B & W TV. because the cherry red SGs looked too black in B & W. The TV Yella ones looked light gray; just right, as Little TV Yella Riding Hood was heard to say.

Rob, I have seen the TP12 in Yellow. It's the only color that looks terrible on them, and I've seen all their colors at one time or another. Even the Bulls-Eye looks better.

"Flip" -- could be just flipping the headstock back on the C64, but I also wonder if RIC might do something like have a Paul McCartney certified limited edition? Maybe even a Sgt. Pepper/MMT paint job? That would be something "flippable." Hmm.

We will cease taking orders for the following models following the end of the NAMM 2009 tradeshow on January 18th, 2009:

4001C64
4001C64S

This change is due to the factory already working at 100% capacity, combined with a plan to offer some additional products which might be considered to overlap with these models.

Good observation, Paul. I think that Ben's "people will flip out!" comment combined with the above RIC announcement to "offer some additional products which might be considered to overlap with these models" point toward an RM 1999 re-issue without a reversed headstock.

I'd always thought that the biggest complaint RE: the 4001C64 was the reversed headstock. Can't recall just how many posts I've read mentioning that. Now if the are going in that direction, I hope that they offer up that really comfy '60s era neck profile, too!

+1 ...except for the neck profile thing. I like my Ricks to be able to withstand higher tension strings than TI flats. The late 80's Rick bass necks were very comfortable, very close in girth to 60's necks, and strong enough that they won't fold up with your average set of medium nickel rounds. I vote for strength.

I think the real reason they leave us hanging is to laugh at all the crazy ideas people come up with.
