Lady Of The Lake - 20 Bass Mix

Post by walker »

'Lady Of The Lake' is a song I heard from a lesser known album by The Sweet, 'Level Headed.' In the song they have a string quartet or chamber ensemble in the background adding a classical feel to the piece. I reproduced this string passage using 4 different basses recorded on 20 different tracks. Some of the parts are the same line tracked 2-3 times to fill out the parts a bit and give them more depth. On a couple of the parts, I altered the "tape speed" to emulate a bass strung with piccolo strings.

I used the following four basses:

Image

1968 4001 MG - piccolo & violin parts
1979 4001V63 - super distorted low bass
1976 4001FL - fretless melody in the 2nd half of the piece
1979 4001SLH - cello parts

Cool rendition - I like the little solo towards the end... you and Miguel Falcão should colaborate - might be interesting. Wish I had something better to listen to it on, production sounds good.

HA! Yes - "Less posting, more playing" is a good motto.

Thanks for the props, Tom. Now I have to Google 'Miguel Falcão!'

Sidenote for who it concerns: Sometimes the Garage Band player gets stuck it 'buffering' mode. If you click on the "back" button on the player, that usually gets it going again.

Nice cover, Mark. Interesting reproduction of the strings.

Very cool. I like the progression between 0:23 and 0:30 quite a bit.

"Now I have to Google 'Miguel Falcão!"

Just look here in the RRF in the Band Forums > 'Chris Squire and Yes Forum'. He's posted some interesting stuff. Something like this coupled with somehting like his Alternate 8 string tuning.... who knows. You both have a very nice touch with the strings.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, I can totally see the SOB connection. The basses do sound more like clavinet/harpsichord timbre than cello & viola.

0:23-0:30 - I did have fun with the flanger during that part.

RRF members are posting tunes on the 'Chris Squire & Yes Forum?' Sounds like a topic I'll have to infiltrate!

HA! Nice one. I should be so cool with the espionage & gadgetry. More like "Walker; Mark Walker: Shaken and slightly disoriented."
