Just a little stressed today. The economy has me down.

I just finished replacing the stock Eminence B102's in my Ampeg HLF410 with 4 Eminence Delta-Lite neodymium speakers. The cab is now rated at 1000 watts program and 2000 peak at 2 ohms. Not that I needed THAT much power capacity, but the speakers were priced right and weigh a lot less.

Har. I remember when my father bought a '78 Granada from the local Ford dealer...we both had been GM guys for a long time--him since birth, I think. But a friend of his talked him into trading his gorgeous, mint '63 Cad Coupe de Ville on that monstrosity. Bright Green Metallic with a white vinyl roof, green rugs and white vinyl trim. They musta seen him coming. It lasted about 2 years and lunched the tranny. He went back to GM, but it was too late...GM was past the peak of the curve and it's been junque since

I think that Granada and its contemporary--the Fairmont--were the only cars designed without any curves. Truly awful.

Them's fightin' words Paulie! I think the bad GM/QC issue is an urban myth any more. My '94 Grand Prix has over 240,000 miles on it. My '91 Trans am had over 160,000 when I sold it ( I was beating new T/A's in '96 with it.) My Trans Sport mini van had over 160,000 when I sold it(wish I still had it..hey don't laugh, it got great mileage and could carry EVERY piece of gear I have.) I could tell more such stories, but the point is a car will last as long as you take care of it....unless of course it's a '78 Granada :lol:

Dane, I have owned more GM cars than any others. I count among my good friends and customers a former VP of GM, and spent a number of exciting days at the GM Styling Center researching projects in their incredible car library. I loved my SAABs, too, until GM bought a big interest and "re-engineered" them to ****, too. They simply jumped the shark, oh, around 1966, and except for a few bright spots, haven't recovered yet, faithful owners like yourself notwithstanding.

I often wonder where the whole transportation biz would be if car manufacturers had used common sense (instead of rape-the-public-and-planet profiteering) post-WWII, when the choice could have been to make practical, well-engineered and realistically-packaged cars. Instead, we got the '48 Buick and its ilk. True, imagination did give us some memorable vehicles in the '50s and early '60s, but the good old days wouldn't be past if they'd taken the other road.

Reminds me of the NASA dilemma when the moon frenzy was over and they were looking at their programs anew. The choice: "BDR" (big, dumb rockets--the cheapest, most efficient way of getting payloads into space) or the road they did take--the abysmal space shuttle, which expends more PR money keeping the public thinking it's "efficient" (it's not, and never was--it was just a way to enlarge their turf and justify huge budgets and lots of jobs) than the entire BDR program would have cost.

This sort of grandiosity and protective obfuscation works in the States, but to other cultures, we look like cowboys.
