4001 CS Numbers Decline?

Re: 4001 CS Numbers Decline?
They are quite possibly fakes.
There was a guy selling fake McGuinns a few years ago. This could be more of the same.
On further inspection it/they do look real.

Re: 4001 CS Numbers Decline?
These were sold as part of a big parcel of around 12 or so pickguards on ebay about a month or so back. Just one CS sale has made the guy's money back on the parcel.... I thought they had to be fakes at the time, but they sure look good.

Too bad they aren't real (or seem to good to be true). I often wish Rickenbacker had a program where you could return your current pick guard and get a new one to replace it. Even it had to be done through a dealer so they know it's coming from a real serial #'d 4001CS and thus replace them one for one and not put more on the market for fakes.antipodean wrote:These were sold as part of a big parcel of around 12 or so pickguards on ebay about a month or so back. It's also possible that people with CS pickguards wanted something w/out his "sig" on it and replaced it, only to sell the original at a marked-up price. I don't know. I have no affiliation with the sale but I really don't know how you'd spot a faker either.
Now that I think of it Paul d'Amour's CS didn't have the signature pickguard on it. And, he took the "shoes" off after awhile.

Taking if off and replacing it if you're gonna play it is probably a great idea. But I'd be keeping the original safe and sound to be put back on in case you ever did want to sell the bass. But good point, they might be from a real bass....and I also agree that telling a fake would be impossible as far as I know.cassius987 wrote:It's also possible that people with CS pickguards wanted something w/out his "sig" on it and replaced it, only to sell the original at a marked-up price.
