'58 330 Wiring Question

Post by '70RS »

Here's a quick one:

Did the '58s ever have a 3 knob, 1 switch wiring schematic?
I've only seen 2 knob, 2 switch.

Thanks,

From what I have seen, no.

Have you seen evidence of this....?

Two knobs and one switch seems to be the order of the day for 1958 330 and 340 models.

I have spotted two knobs and two switches on 57 and 58 prototype and "F body models.

I have not seen a 3 knobs and one switch configuration on any late 50's model, or any model period, for that matter.

I don't believe they've ever had a three knob configuration.

I have.
I had a feeling it was originally a 2 switch, 2 knob, that may have been modified, but I wasn't able to open it up and take a look.
I'm planning on taking a close look Wednesday. I'll try and get some good pics and report back.

Thanks,

Okay, I spent some time with the guitar yesterday.
The owner didn't like the two switch/two knob setup so he made a new pickguard with a control layout he liked, disconnected to old assembly (leaving it intact) and hooked up the new one. He used the same holes and rubber grommets so as not to mess up the guitar. He's supposed to dig out the original guard assembly so that it can be returned to it's proper home with a couple hits on the soldering iron.

I'll keep you all posted.

I beleive that most '58 models sported four knobs and one switch. The very earliest ones used two knobs and two switches.

It's early.
I will be getting pics when I see it again, hopefully with original assembly reinstalled.

I plugged it into a silverface Princeton Reverb and it sounded amazing. I may have to sell a car and one of my kids to pick this thing up.

Why oh why can't Ric just pull it together and reissue these things......

Gotta love them early '58s. Serial number looks like 2T117?
