Reference help: RIC price lists

Post by bassduke49 »

I've recently received a good number of RIC price list copies from Paul Mutchler as part of my research for my book on Rick basses. I'm not so interested in the prices as much as I am in the time periods that certain models are listed. This helps me with the Rick bass family tree/timeline. Among the price lists I received from Paul are such revealing informational tidbits as the 1971 listing of the 3000 and 3001 basses; which then disappeared in the 1973 (dont' have '72) and was relisted again in '76. Another: The Blackstar was the only one of the three SPC basses to make the price list (June '89) with no mention of the Redneck or Tuxedo. Another: Listed in March '75 is the "4001/8" eight-string but gone in June '76. Lotsa goodies like this, but even then, it is not clear that production began, ended, or even happened for any particular model. But they're just more bricks in the wall that will lead to an accurate history.

So, I'm wondering if any Forumites might be able to help complete my collection of price lists. I'm only looking for copies/scans. They don't have to be reproducible quality, just readable. Thanks to Paul Mutchler and John Peterson, I have a good representation of price lists, but I'm looking for the following years. It's possible that some years don't have price lists, and possibly some years may have more than one issued. But here is what I need:

All between 1957 and 1973
1974
1977-1980
1982-1985
1996-2000
2002-2008

Please PM me if you can help, or post here.

p.s. I already asked the factory and was referred to Matt Hill who may help.

Paul, I have a partial '94 (the dog's got!) and a complete '98. Let me know if you want me to scan and send to you.

That's really interesting, considering that none of the 3000s and 3001s listed in the Register were made before 1976!

Ron, you got it! It seems that they intended to release them in 1971, then withdrew. Probably redesigned it as the '71 lists them at 7 pounds in shipping weight (as opposed to the 4001 at 15 pounds)! The '71 prices were $299.50 for the 3000 and $349.50 for the 3001. When they reappeared in '76, both (and the 4001) were listed at 12 pounds shipping weight; '76 prices: 3000, $399; 3001, $425.

Ted, if you can find it, it would sure help.

Sam, even the undigested pieces might be a help if they contain the bass listings.

Thanks, everyone!
